vermillion rules: Sunday Skirt
http://vermillionrules.blogspot.com/2009/07/sunday-skirt.html
Sunday, July 26, 2009. I make so many skirts and dresses for Storey, I really should start doing a "Sunday Skirt" post weekly just to document them all. Wishful thinking on my part. I know I'll never get around to it. Here's how I made it just in case anyone else wants to try their hand. I know other tutorials can be found online, but they don't really give measurements and I put my skirt together differently (I thought it was easier this way). Lay the cotton skirt base down and pin the long pieces of tu...

vermillion rules: Less than a month!
http://vermillionrules.blogspot.com/2015/06/less-than-month.html
Tuesday, June 30, 2015. Less than a month! The past month (really, the past 10 months) has been a whirlwind. Discussing Jakson's needs with the public school and his current therapists/psychologist, buying gifts for the notaries and other government officials we will be dealing with (fish oil for all! Weird gift, huh? Tonight all of the stress was worth it as I opened an update that our agency sent us of Miss Mabel. It looks like she may be crawling now! For this control freak, that is definitely somethi...

vermillion rules: Sing it loud.
http://vermillionrules.blogspot.com/2015/07/sing-it-loud.html
Saturday, July 18, 2015. Storey's birthday is the day after we get home from China. Needless to say, we will not be doing much celebrating. I hope we will be sleeping instead. I gave her the choice to have her family party/presents/cake now or wait until we'd be home a couple of weeks. Like any red blooded kid, she chose now. Because who doesn't want to get presents early? Dad always trying to be the center of attention. But Storey was in heaven. I've noticed a trend with the gifts my parents give th...

vermillion rules: China Trip: Beijing
http://vermillionrules.blogspot.com/2015/07/china-trip-beijing.html
Sunday, July 26, 2015. We have hardly had any jet lag (going back is going to be brutal though, something I keep warning Zak about since he's never experienced it). Our driver showed up at the airport to pick us up (first win in China! And I was expecting the crazy driving that we'd been warned about, but he drove SO SLOW. Way below the speed limit and all of the other cars on the road were passing us. We eventually got to the hotel which is all that really matters. We took a chair lift up to the wall, w...

vermillion rules: On the walls
http://vermillionrules.blogspot.com/2009/01/on-walls.html
Wednesday, January 07, 2009. As I've mentioned before, the only art on the walls of our house is photography. Pictures of us. How vain. Really though, it's photos of the kids. Because they are cute and aren't screaming at me from pictures. In times of tantrums, the photos help remind me why I like my children. And I want my home to reflect what is important to me- my family, books, 6th grade poetry. Result of the updated frames on the collage wall- I noticed once I took a picture of the frames, that some...

The Lights: December 2010
http://threeheadlights.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html
In all of living have much fun and laughter. Life is to be enjoyed, not just endured." -Gordon B. Hinckley. Thursday, December 16, 2010. Here we go again. Today, for the second day in a row, I got to take a shower before 9am without an audience and without anyone destroying any electronics. Awesome. Max is getting closer and closer to being potty trained. Less diapers= awesome. We bought a dvd player for our car. That made the 9 hour trip to Utah a couple weeks ago sooooo awesome and quiet. Say w...Joey ...

vermillion rules: DIY-DISNEYLAND SHIRTS: TUTORIAL
http://vermillionrules.blogspot.com/2010/03/diy-disneyland-shirts-tutorial.html
Monday, March 01, 2010. We are leaving for Disneyland. Tomorrow and I'm not feeling too stressed out yet (amazingly! I took a break from packing this afternoon to spend some of my precious alone time making the kids Disneyland shirts. It's not even 45 minutes into naptime and I've had time to eat AND finish two appliqued Mickey shirts. They are that easy! Pre-washed shirt or onesie. The Mickey Mouse Clubhouse cake template. Pin the head template to the Heat 'n Bond and cut out. Peel off the paper backing...

vermillion rules: Xining Day One
http://vermillionrules.blogspot.com/2015/08/xining-day-one.html
Saturday, August 01, 2015. View from our window of Xining. We arrived in Xining on Sunday around 2pm. The flight from Beijing to Xining was very different from our previous flights because we were the only westerners on the plane, which meant a lot of stares and the kids getting touched. Also, it seems that when there are less westerners, the Chinese people assume we know Chinese, otherwise what are we doing there? We took a walk around a pretty park across the street which was the highlight of the day&#...

vermillion rules: Bow Holder on the Cheap
http://vermillionrules.blogspot.com/2009/08/bow-holder-on-cheap.html
Thursday, August 27, 2009. Bow Holder on the Cheap. Storey got quite a few clips for her birthday. Many of which we promptly lost. As a result, I decided that I needed a permanent place for girly hair things (still getting used to the whole "girl" thing). I loved this idea from Nannygoat,. But was disappointed to come back with nothing like it after scouring the local thrift shops. And I needed somewhere to put the clips right away. Ribbon or trim-I used some vintage trims that my mom gave me. It was ano...

vermillion rules: Little Fabric Headband Tutorial
http://vermillionrules.blogspot.com/2009/04/little-fabric-headband-tutorial.html
Wednesday, April 22, 2009. Little Fabric Headband Tutorial. The lengths shown here are for Storey (8 months), but you could easily add or subtract length for an older or younger child. This is a fabulous easy (10 minute) project for leftover scraps. Cut one piece of fabric- 3 inches wide and 13 inches long. Fold the raw edges over (wrong sides together) about 1/2 inch and sew down on both short sides. This is what it looks like with both sides sewn down. This is the top of the headband-no seam. They're r...
