The entire country was covered in flowers - the sides of the highways were perfectly manicured, and each roundabout had extensive landscaping in it. I've never seen anything like it. The amount of labour, and water, that it takes to sustain this is mindblowing!

Ian Wright at MEC. A month or so before I left I met Ian Wright (of Globetrekker fame) and he signed my "Arabian Peninsula" Lonely Planet book for good luck (lthough I'm not sure if he was being sincere or sarcastic! Anyways, it seemed to work - I had an amazing time and returned not too worse for wear.

Wahiba Sands - moonrise and sunset. A hilight of the trip to Wahiba sands was seeing the moon and sun rise and set. I managed to get up every morning I was there at 5:30 to climb over some gigantic sand dunes (part of my 10k training) to watch the sunrise. This was mostly because I was frozen and hardly able to sleep - the desert gets cold at night! Anyways, it was always worth the early morning trek. The sunset and moonrise pictures above were taken on top of the dunes during our 4WD experience.

Sultan Qaboos' Grand Mosque. Finished a few years ago for the Sultan's 35th anniversary, the Grand Mosque can hold 20,000 worshippers. The main hall has a Persian carpet that measures 60 x 70 metres and weighs 21 tons. It also has the world's largest chandelier (shown above).
