Experiment | Sarah Masters
https://sarahkmasters.wordpress.com/2015/01/20/experiment
January 20, 2015. Last summer I took a short four session class just to have an opportunity to play a bit. I suppose it should have been no surprise when my printing did not go at all in the direction I had imagined. Under the guidance of the excellent artist and teacher Chris Palmer at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Studio School. I experimented with something I hadn’t tried before: using newsprint as the printmaking plate. Caran d’Ache. If you want to see some of the results, Hill Gallery. Address ne...
Old Glove | Sarah Masters

February 12, 2015. This process really applies to all the work, but it is most predictable to me with the nest drawings. And, honestly, the nest drawings and the process of making them have always afforded a metaphor and mirror for life for me. I always learn something from making them, even if just to be reminded of something I already know. One Response to “Old Glove”. February 14, 2015 at 10:59 AM. This description of the creative process is worthy of Bartlett’s Quotations! Leave a Reply Cancel reply.

I was in the gallery again today (what a surprise) but I took a break from study/research to sketch one of the nude sculptures that are dotted around the place (shocking! Sketchy on the Detail. Draw a little every day. Sunday, 27 July 2014. The sun appeared in the afternoon, just in time for me to go to my ballet class. It’s a short stroll through the local park, with its tree-lined avenue, and makes for a lovely afternoon. Class was fun, though I am not sure how much I have learnt. But I will go next week, and try not to look quite so serious and/or terrified. And red. Sunday, 27 July 2014. Sunday, 27 July 2014. Y2D296 and time capsules. Sunday, 27 July 2014. There is st...

I’m a poet living in Philadelphia, PA, the city my mother’s family is from. I used to think (and still sometimes do) that the statues on Kelly Drive, the road that winds along the Schuylkill River, were my friends. The other half of me (my father’s family) comes from rural Wisconsin. To complicate things further, I was born in Florida, and spent my teenage years in London. American Poetry Review,. Art Classes, Craft Shows, and Events. Interviews with Artists and Creatives. The Golden Moth Illumination Deck. Tuesday, January 13, 2015. 2014: A Year in Pictures. This is me, right now. And Dozer, my cat. As the caption says, it is glorious. I'm taking a rest - a self-enforced laziness. I feel like I should get up and do stuff, I have my to-do list filled with activities, yet they're getting ticked off so slowly. YES To sluggy-ness. It is so healing. An album cover I illustrated in linocut. I travelled...

Art Classes, Craft Shows, and Events. Interviews with Artists and Creatives. The Golden Moth Illumination Deck. Tuesday, January 20, 2015. A reader commented on my 2014 Re-Cap post. That her year was full of less tangible accomplishments than mine. I like that observation. It's true that some years are full of busy activity, and some can be more low-key in terms of visibility, but a lot can go on underneath the surface. I'm going to use my Golden Moth Illumination Deck. To show you what 2014 felt. Right ...

Random thoughts about cooking, eating, Singapore, my Christian faith, my husband. Thursday, 3 July 2014. The ninety-nine and the one. This is a story about a loving Father who is willing to go in search of someone he loves who has wandered off from him. The story was told so that we would know that he seeks us and wants us to know him closely. And that we should also seek others and not look down on those who are not currently close to God. This gives us an insight into Jesus' parable. Not only is th...

Piecemeal
My writing posted piecemeal. Give An Honest Minute. July 26, 2015. Talking With People I Don't Know. Thinking in drafting, again. There is more to this. What comes after giving an honest minute? We ate lunch and I took Grant in to use the bathroom. I saw the family from the parking lot sitting at a booth. We stopped to say hello on the way back to the patio. I didn’t say what I wanted to say because what I wanted to say was just taking shape then. I wanted to find this: That I wonder if we would be.

My name is Sarah Kathleen McCartan. I am a storyteller at heart. Throughout the entirety of my existence, writing things down has helped me better define myself, and attempt to make sense of the noise flooding the world around me. This blog / portfolio presents a collection of my published work. At the beginning of 2014, I took a leap to mold my writing career around my lifestyle, rather than the other way around. Since then I have launched Vegan on the Run. To learn more about my experiences to date.
