And the weeks fly by - roombawithaview. And the weeks fly by. Laquo; previous entry. Oct 5th, 2012 12:17 pm. US, Wisconsin, Madison, Dane, N Paterson St, 323. I'm honestly not sure how things are going teaching-wise. I know that there are some students who're enjoying the class, and being challenged by it, but there are also some who don't seem very engaged. I bought a short handbook on teaching geometry. Which has an example of a complex instruction-type task: drawing a bunch of quadrilaterals, then joi...

Stepping stones - roombawithaview. Laquo; previous entry. Next entry ». Jul 9th, 2012 06:56 pm. Much better for a weekend away! I also suddenly realised why we did an entire section on geometry constructions: so that we can figure out what auxiliary lines can and cant be added to a figure, and also, given limited information about a triangle (for example) whether we can draw a unique triangle that satisfies the information, or not (which leads to the various tests for congruence). And also, I think I nee...

Ive been wanting to incorporate my reading about complex instruction, but so far have not got there. However, when working in groups Ive asked the students to be aware of the group dynamics - is there someone who is monopolising? Someone whos not saying anything? Today I talked a little about the van Hiele model of geometric understanding. Its the pedagogical model on w...

The knitting adventures of firstfallen. Laquo; Xmas knitting finished! Posh yarns and projects. Some yarns to dye for. 1 April, 2009 by fallenknits. Argh, I missed my monthly update by a day, woe! Here’s my (kinda) monthly breakdown of what’s happening on the knitting front, arranged by category I guess. I met up with some Ravelry peeps at Vinni’s (of Vinni’s Colours fame) house for an open day. I dyed some cotton sock yarn! I’m also working on a cabled body-warmer for my niece, no photos as yet. I made ...

May 1st, 2013 at 10:26 PM. Life is about what you would expect, with 3 weeks to go before I leave Madison, heading for CT via Canada, Chicago and (briefly) the UK. I alternate between excited, terrified, happy, sad, calm and stressed, about as often as Madison changes weather (this time last week: sleet. Today: 29 C in the shade). Conversations which have made me happy over the last week include:. I pack my bags slowly after class. Its a lifestyle choice. 2 comments Leave a comment.
