Science Shenanigans

Wednesday, May 21, 2014. Your materials: One egg and whatever you can find in the classroom. Your mission: Keep that egg together.as we drop it down the stairs. While exploring Newton's third law (For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction) and beginning to talk about the force of gravity we abused some eggs. Only one ended up splattered on the floor, though. This exploration of forces and how to absorb those forces was a fun platform to launch a discussion of gravity and impact. As we went...

Science Shenanigans: Sedimentary Rocks

http://scienceshenaniganz.blogspot.com/2014/04/sedimentary-rocks.html

Wednesday, April 2, 2014. Making sedimentary rocks is really a long, tough process. It takes a lot of time and pressure to get sediments to stick together in rock form. Science Shenanigans: April 2014

http://scienceshenaniganz.blogspot.com/2014_04_01_archive.html

Friday, April 4, 2014. Survival of the Fittest. My biology class was infested with birds today. Birds with very interesting beaks. As we went through the rounds, the beak types changed. Evolution! We also examined how their strategies changed as their beak types changed (ie: chopsticks went for the big stuff) and what beaks would be the most useful in the wild. Thursday, April 3, 2014. Who doesn't love geodes? Wednesday, April 2, 2014. Tuesday, April 1, 2014. Can you design a home to survive a tsunami?

Science Shenanigans: Exploring Geodes

http://scienceshenaniganz.blogspot.com/2014/04/exploring-geodes.html

Thursday, April 3, 2014. Who doesn't love geodes? We took the opportunity to explore geodes in physical science this morning. We found some lovely crystals inside of these ordinary looking rocks, it just took a few hammer blows to coax them out. It was a great opportunity to don our brightly colored safety glasses for a change. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. Survival of the Fittest. Picture Window theme. Science Shenanigans: March 2014

http://scienceshenaniganz.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html

Wednesday, March 12, 2014. DNA and It's Processes. My Biology students made paper models of DNA and used them to demonstrate replication, transcription, and translation. It was a bit frustrating for them at times, but it's a great opportunity to get their hands into DNA. Tuesday, March 4, 2014. Our results: Dr. Thunder gave a better fountain and Sour Skittles are a bust. A lot of fun was had exploring physical vs. chemical changes, though! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).
