Project S.C.I.N.I.

Wednesday, December 12, 2007: The Last Blog. The last blog falls to me. Here at the end of the season, we have been busy with the business of giving back the increadible amount of stuff we borrowed from the permanent stores here at McMurdo. Packing is no fun at all. Yesterday, as part of the wrap up to the season Nick gave a presentation of the work he has done on his Capstone project to our group and assorted friends. Barefoot presentations are just how it gets done in Barrio Rio Seco. So far, we are on...

Project S.C.I.N.I.: Art at McMurdo

http://scini.blogspot.com/2007/12/art-at-mcmurdo.html

Saturday, December 8, 2007: Art at McMurdo. Even in the land of ice and snow, human natures primordial need for self expression burns hot. Long winters and brief interludes from work allow time for minds to wander and creativity to flow. Below are examples of the art forms that one finds when in and around town. Take a self guided stroll through the interesting and sometimes weird art of McMurdo Station. In the stairwell to the Crary Library. Wall in the Science Cargo Building. The bridge troll of course.

Project S.C.I.N.I.: October 2007

http://scini.blogspot.com/2007_10_01_archive.html

Wednesday, October 31, 2007: All in a days work at New Harbor. As Stacy reported in the previous post we are currently at our beautiful deep field camp New Harbor, which is about 60 miles away from McMurdo Station. Today was filled with all kinds of jobs that needed to be done around the camp and some of today’s highlights include pluming issues, moving of equipment, starting generators, drilling and cooking. Just take in the beauty of New Harbor, and I thought McMurdo was amazing. Moving equipment, Anta...

Project S.C.I.N.I.: Tales for the Spicy Penguin

http://scini.blogspot.com/2007/12/tales-for-spicy-penguin.html

Sunday, December 9, 2007: Tales for the Spicy Penguin. Penguino, Penguino,. Shortly before my son Jack was born my wife and I watched March of the Penguins and something from it stuck in our subconcious. Not long after he entered the world he became El Penguino. The Small Man doing what he does best. And ceaselessly. The most important feature was a great old stove. I want a beautiful stove just like that to put in my house. It must have been a fight to see who got the bunk closest to the stove. Just out...

http://scini.blogspot.com/2007_11_01_archive.html

Friday, November 30, 2007: SCIENCE! One of the best parts about working in the Crary lab is meeting all the other grantees and seeing their projects unfold, and today i've got a sampling of groups i've met over the past two months around station. By next year, the NSF should have updates it's US Antarctic Program website. With a list of active science groups, but for now i'm all you've got. A nudibranch collected by a diver from Amy's group. Next door to us in the aquarium area is Amy Moran's. Group with...

Scott's Blog

Saturday, July 29, 2006. Ok, here we go. In response to the multiple requests that I have received for HDR info and tips, I figured I would write a brief walkthrough of the HDR process, some of the tools used and a few tips that I have found helpful. It allows for the deep shadows and intense bright light to be filtered out of an image, and as such tend to produce some remarkable images. As for the process itself, there are a few different methods. The Auto Exposure settings can be found on most higher-l...
