Our goal is to create a sustainable infrastructure over the next years that allow a large number of people across all ages and genders to play regularly in an organized club on a flat pitch with the appropriate equipment. Traditionally, netball is the most popular sport for women in Tanzania, although the number of clubs has sharply declined over the past two decades. Together with the local netball federation we want to work against this development. We will create new netball fields as part of our sports centers and build up organized clubs with youth structures. The interest among girls is huge and the Video above showed the sport’s potential. Children in Mwanza are innovative. Since their parents often don’t have enough money to buy them a ball, they make one themselves using old plastic bags. They kick the ball, throw it or just play around with it. However, when they grow up they wish to play in a club on a proper pitch with a real ball. Currently the biggest problems are that playing fields are missing and balls are too expensive for the teams. They usually train with one or two balls only which also don’t last long on the rough surfaces. Technical and tactical trainings are not common among the teams. When we see the enthusiasm among the current teams and the interest of spectators during matches, we are convinced to bring the volleyball passion from the Tanzanian beaches to the city of Mwanza in the upcoming years. Every Saturday, Mama asked us for a ball. We always wondered, “why did she want the ball? 8221; She takes care of our volunteer house. We don’t speak the same language, but we understand each other.
