The Undiscovered Scriptwriter: May 2009
http://theundiscoveredscriptwriter.blogspot.com/2009_05_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 26 May 2009. That title isn't a good thing. I haven't just bought a beautiful new laptop with all the latest shiny gizmos - My (not so) trusty laptop has left this mortal coil and ascended up to a higher plane of existence - No, not the loft (I don't have one) but it's own laptop heaven (similar to Calculator heaven I think.). But for surfing the net it was a bit of a pain in the arse! It took about 10 seconds to scroll the window up and down! It's actually quite refreshing (not the litter!

The island of Dreams. Saturday, January 04, 2014. Follow the White Rabbit. In which I ramble on about The Matrix. And Hugo Weaving's teeth. No one can be told what the The Matrix. Is but there will be spoilers here. The other night, for the first time in years. Well it was New Year's Eve, actually. Way to ring in the new year. We all loved The Matrix. I really enjoyed most of it. For one thing I've always really liked Keanu Reeves, ever since seeing him in a film called Permanent Record. I love the littl...

What's not happening in Scottish Film? Read about it here. Have your prejudices confirmed. Let your apathy be justified. Leanne Smith is a writer, filmmaker and ex-lap dancer. She cares so you don't have to. Tuesday, January 31, 2006. JOBS GALORE AT WEST GEORGE STREET. Aw, shut it. This lightly paraphrased job ad appeared in this week's Guardian. For an organisation that does hee-haw for filmmakers, can anyone tell me why Scottish Screen needs to take on more staff? Posted by Leanne Smith at 7:20 PM.

Wednesday, 15 July 2009. No CBBC For Me! Hello, and congratulations to anyone who made it into the Masterclass for the CBBC opportunity! As you can probably guess from the title, I didn't get a sniff. I was slightly disappointed that I didn't even get an e-mail from the BBC to say "You're crap, give up now! But neither did about 600 other people, so I'm in good company! So what's next on the agenda? Well, I'll be working on the script I submitted, as I personally think it's rather good! I'm also going to...

She cares so you don't have to. Tuesday, March 28, 2006. Now the ash has crashed north of the border due to the smoking ban, we're facing a greater risk to our well-being thanks to the toxic fumes emiting from the mouths of politicians who seem to think it's their business to make art imitate life as well. What I want to know is ho...

She cares so you don't have to. Wednesday, April 26, 2006. The grass has riz. Does anyone know what development is? So does development make a script any better? Getting back to the notion of commercial - just how commercial can a low budget movie be? Just how many of these films ever paid back their investors? I'm sure if this was...

fifteen minutes of mantra-filled oompah: Hitchcock's antiheroes (Strangers on a Train, Dial M for Murder)
http://tom-writer.blogspot.com/2012/09/hitchcocks-antiheroes-strangers-on.html
Thursday, 27 September 2012. Hitchcock's antiheroes (Strangers on a Train, Dial M for Murder). Here's another golden oldie. I published this originally on Mid-Summer Day 2010 - back when the world was young and all things seemed possible. As before sorry if any of the links have gone kaput in the intervening time. Over the past few weeks we've seen Strangers on a Train. 1951) and Dial M for Murder. The set-up of Strangers on a Train. Haines makes his excuses and leaves, but Anthony thinks they've agreed ...

fifteen minutes of mantra-filled oompah: November 2011
http://tom-writer.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 1 November 2011. Top Boy, Channel 4. My latest review on Orange. I worried I was being a bit hard on it, but after enjoying Hidden. I was expecting much more from writer Ronan Bennett. A lot of the drug-related stuff seemed a bit over-familiar and hackneyed, and it would have been interesting to see more of RaNell having to take care of himself. Its by no means a bad drama, but it could have been so much more. The opener was just another humdrum excursion into familiar territory. Meanwhile, scho...

Family. Dayjob. Writing. Pull the cords and start juggling. Careful you dont drop one. Wednesday, April 30, 2008. I stumbled upon the position I interviewed for today and applied as quickly as I could. They requested a demo a few days later and then some raw footage I'd shot afterward to get an idea of my camera sense. The interview went very well, the facility is putting out some good work and since the job is with a major university, I'd be able to complete my degree as well. Links to this post. I'd fi...
