Monday, August 27, 2012. And So the Dirty Work Begins Again. Yesterday it rained most of the day. So it was a nice lazy day of watching Netflix (which is way better in Costa Rica, so many new movies) and catching up on sleep and paperwork. An hour later, we carried the bucket of turtles out to the beach and watched as they ran for the whites of the waves. Olive Ridley- San Miguel Costa Rica. Me and a nesting Olive Ridley- Corazolito, Costa Rica. One of two species known to preform "Arribadas" (which means 'arrival' in Spanish because 1000's of turtles nest on a beach in a single night). Species is found in both the Pacific and Indian Oceans and nest on beaches from Mexico all the way to Colombia. They are the smallest marine turtles weighing only 35-45kg with a carapace of ranging from 55-75cm. They can nest up to 3 times a year and often nest each year.
