Stories of life on an island called Maui. Sunday, October 21, 2012. Thigmotropism. If you took biology in high school, you learned this word. Here's a little reminder. Thigmotropism is what Botanists call it when plants can respond to touch by moving. The most commonly known example is the Venus Fly Trap. A bug crawls in, the plant senses the touch, and snaps shut to trap the insect. These ferns, which we found along the Hana Highway, are thigmotropic. Very cool! October 23, 2012 at 11:31 AM.

Stories of life on an island called Maui. Saturday, September 15, 2012. Every year, sometime in September, the Hana Relay. Takes over the north shore of Maui. It is a huge event, with close to 200 teams of six running fifty-two miles from Kahalui to Hana. The narrow, winding, cliff-side road is jammed packed with athletes, support vehicles, and fans, thousands of people relaying their way to Hana. It's just about the most fun you can have on a Saturday in September. Slogans, and cheer your heart out too.
