Monumental Inscriptions - Silverton Local History Society

The following list of Monumental Inscriptions in the graveyard of St Mary’s Church, Silverton, were transcribed at the direction of the Rev. J H Ward, Rector of St Mary’s from December 1894 until his retirement in May 1909. The work is thought to have been carried out by his daughter Miss Laetitia Josephine Ward, later Mrs L J Chalk. The earliest date recorded is 20th October 1692, and the latest 31st October 1905. Died May 6th 1849 Aged 81. Died May 13th 1846 Aged 75. Died January 7th 1850 Aged 11.

Silverton Park, shortly before being blown up in 1901. Approximately one mile to the east of Silverton is the site of the mansion built for George Francis Wyndham, the fourth and last Earl of Egremont. Designed in 1838 by. The house was never completed and little now remains except the stables. The stables today, now converted into holiday accommodation by the Landmark Trust. One of many sections of the ornamental frieze that remain. This has been incorporated in another property in the locality.
