In addition a luna moth, a twin spotted sphinx, two Imperial moths, several Isabella tiger moths, and a polyphemus moth were also attracted to that black light. An important event on my list is the return of the red winged blackbirds. They are always the first migratory birds to return each year. I saw the first specimens settling into the cattails on the pond’s edge on February 20. That’s three weeks earlier than usual. Eastern Comma butterfly on shagbark hickory bait. One can only hope.
