Sketchy Lady

Growing up, I always looked forward to watching a Hitchcock movie when it was on AMC. While the stories were the best part, Hitchcock's famous "cool blondes" were always fun, in a beautiful, slightly sinister way. Kim Novak, Grace Kelly, Eva Marie Saint. Some better actresses than others, but all perfectly in the theme. Recently, I designed a show put on by Althroughz Productions. Called Down in the Face of God. Photo courtesy Corwin Evans. My mother and grandmother in Pasadena, 1956. Only in the 70's.

Recently, I designed a show put on by Althroughz Productions. Called Down in the Face of God. The post-apocalyptic saga saw a lot of distressing, especially with our gal Gavi here, a homeless outsider in a town full of teenagers. The ultimate compliment I received was when the director saw her crouching in costume and thought she was part of the set. Photo courtesy Corwin Evans. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Sketchy Lady: Three Hours of My Future

Three Hours of My Future. For the past few weeks, I've had the good fortune to attend a community art class with the silver haired crowd. I didn't know exactly what to expect, but everyone was incredibly talented, with multiple retired illlustrators in the room. One guy used to be head illustrator for advertising great David Ogilvy. I'm working on a new design project and Kipling, as you can tell, is being very helpful. The show I'm designing is nautical and whimsical Twelfth Night. It's a lighthearted play and I want to keep it very playful. Here are a couple snippets from my show mood board. Now it's time for me to get back to sketching! I've only been to Disneyland once. I'm ashamed to say I did not dress this well. Now realizing that I missed a fabulous hat and pearl wearing opportunity. Out on the town. Little Miss Big Shot.

Whenever I see a movie in the theater I always stay through the end of the credits and read the credits. My thought was that someday I'd be in the credit roll and I'd want people to stay and see my name on the screen. Well peeps, it's finally happening! Opens April 4 and you'll be seeing my name in the illustrious position of "Additional Costume Crew." I worked on this last spring for costume designer Kristin Burke. It's crazy and a lot of fun. I'm setting it in 1786 Vienna but with a modern twist. The opera takes place in a day so the show starts out in a white wash then gradually changes to a black out with bold colors. Here's a compilation of images that show the mood of my interpretation of the show. Out on the town.

Saturday, May 2, 2009. This drawing session with Zac took place on one of the nicest days of Spring so far, right after our sculpture class. Since Zac had just sat through my presentation of my Sketchy Lady project (for an ongoing "twice weekly" assignment) he had all kinds of questions while I was drawing him. For example, "Do you think about what you write in the posts while you are drawing people? So I made a mental note to write about that. Saturday, April 25, 2009. These are basically my 'sketchy notes' I shall try to upload between one Sunday lesson to the other.
