Thursday, July 31, 2008. Oxford Adventures: Day Four. This morning we slept in a bit and got breakfast at a little coffee shop on our way to St. Aldate's. I could just taste that the eggs on my breakfast baguette were free-range, even through the saltiness of the bacon. Oh British cooking. This morning's meditation was led by a man named Gil Bailie, yet another aclaimed author and lecturer! His conclusion was that in order to attain true peace (goal of postmodernism) we have to imitate Christ. But his ta...

137 (Gideon’s Winepress). The Weaver’s Violin. Something within me is holding the reins; all I can say is Praise God, I got something within me. Sing an Old Psalm Newly. Posted by Joel f. Asymp; 1 Comment. This morning I went to a workshop at Redeemer by The Psalm Project. To get a demonstration of what I’m trying to describe. My main complaint is that they’ve chosen to do away with the “old” “church modes” — Dorian, Phrygian, et. Anyways, if this is a vision of the future for music in our Reformed churc...

137 (Gideon’s Winepress). The Weaver’s Violin. Something within me is holding the reins; all I can say is Praise God, I got something within me. 137 (Gideon’s Winepress). A personal paraphrase of Psalm 137:1-7. We are the homeless here: held captive. In silence, and unwanted; taunted. They jibe “so where is your God now? We sit by muddy gutters fed. By our tears. Truth? It trickles, mute,. From flick’ring streetlamps, and our songs. 8212; our songs? As if the dumb could sing. We could remember every ray.

le banane jaune.: April 2009

Monday, April 27, 2009. Some ponderings as of late. I've been thinking about my Grandma a lot lately and have decided that she's basically a super hero - which is why we call her Supergrams. She brought up 7 sweeeet kids, my mother included, and is now a very committed gramma to over 40 people. She's survived a lot of major health problems - she's basically a medical miracle. She's one of the strongest people I know and I look up to her so much. My Supergrams is definetly one of my greatest heroes. Somet...

Friday, February 21, 2014. Tuesday, February 18, 2014. Sometimes the spheres above do not look so different from the shapes we see below. Friday, February 14, 2014. So dear Betster, you wanted me to blog again. This week you were tucked into your final bed. We got together to celebrate your life and to mourn your passing. Instead we watched you be lowered into the ground into a bare spot in the middle of the snow. My dear, four score and one friend. You told me often enough. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Wednesday, May 15, 2013. Oriole in the orchard. It is not so easy to find the oriole in our orchard. As he seems rather shy and leery of my lens. But today, he posed and he sang. In payment for the nectar of the apple blossoms. Tuesday, May 14, 2013. I photograph birds, vibrant against blossoms,. I feed the family, clean the house, sit on committees,. I do the laundry, teach the children, work in the garden. And I wonder how life can be so good for me. While it has just shattered for another family.

Tuesday, May 14, 2013. I photograph birds, vibrant against blossoms,. I feed the family, clean the house, sit on committees,. I do the laundry, teach the children, work in the garden. And I wonder how life can be so good for me. While it has just shattered for another family. And how shattered families is commonplace in other countries. And I simply cannot begin to understand how that feels. How can such ugliness be? Why must it be? I hold my children close and want the peace and beauty to last forever.
