Just like that, I'm back. The world is whiter now than when I left, although today is beautifully clear and sunny. Yesterday I flew in just before the storm really established itself on one of the last flights from Washington, DC for the day. Tuesday morning began in what had become typical morning fashion. Oh those mornings where the sun was completely up by 6.30! Definitely on the count for the happy days challenge! One last picture of Recife. These high green hills. Lapsus Calami: 8/100

http://slip-of-a-pen-mg.blogspot.com/2014/03/8100.html

Yet again, another long call home via Skype, but this time I participated by witnessing dinner. Although I didn't have any of the delicious looking roast, mashed potatoes with gravy, or veggies, it's really wonderful to pray together as a family from different parts of the world. This is so lovely! I love that Joel is right with your family eating dinner. :). March 2, 2014 at 10:56 PM. March 3, 2014 at 11:34 PM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). The founders of Esther's Children came for breakfast today. Actually meeting them solidifies the reality of the project - I've seen it in action, and now I've met the mother-daughter duo who is responsible for its conception and execution. The Lord continues to work in wonderful ways. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). My tongue is the pen of a skillful writer - ps. 45:1. Slowly but surely learning. View my complete profile. Lapsus Calami: the beginning of the end

http://slip-of-a-pen-mg.blogspot.com/2014/03/the-beginning-of-end.html

The beginning of the end. So here I am in a hotel room after a departure that began shortly after the Plan A ETA, listening to a Portuguese kids' show and anticipating a very early morning for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity (this is called rising tension so that people remain at least somewhat interested in my blog and return tomorrow). 13/100 - seeing this incredible and stunning world. Lapsus Calami: from the rising of the sun - 14/100

http://slip-of-a-pen-mg.blogspot.com/2014/03/from-rising-of-sun-14100.html

From the rising of the sun - 14/100. And so we became some of those tourists who forgot to pack their hats, thought they could do without them, and then realized how foolish that was. Straight across that water (pictured below. and above) is Africa. If you listen carefully, you can hear the beat of their drums (or so I'm told with a twinkle). Town here is much less chaotic than the streets of Recife. And cooler. The temperature actually drops to the low 20s in the evenings! I haven't actually seen too mu...

Lapsus Calami: October 2012

http://slip-of-a-pen-mg.blogspot.com/2012_10_01_archive.html

Oh the late nights when I tell myself to go to bed at 10 to make up for past late nights and yet continue to do work well into the nights. The promise that tomorrow will worry about itself is often difficult to accept - I keep wanting to do all my work in one day. Be still and know that I am God" (Psalm 46:10). I need this reminder shouted at me. I need to stop and appreciate the world in its frozen yet vibrant beauty, to stop and to lay all cares and concerns at His feet. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

le banane jaune.: July 2008

http://summerskiing.blogspot.com/2008_07_01_archive.html

Thursday, July 31, 2008. Oxford Adventures: Day Four. This morning we slept in a bit and got breakfast at a little coffee shop on our way to St. Aldate's. I could just taste that the eggs on my breakfast baguette were free-range, even through the saltiness of the bacon. Oh British cooking. This morning's meditation was led by a man named Gil Bailie, yet another aclaimed author and lecturer! His conclusion was that in order to attain true peace (goal of postmodernism) we have to imitate Christ. But his ta...

137 (Gideon’s Winepress). The Weaver’s Violin. Something within me is holding the reins; all I can say is Praise God, I got something within me. Sing an Old Psalm Newly. Posted by Joel f. Asymp; 1 Comment. This morning I went to a workshop at Redeemer by The Psalm Project. To get a demonstration of what I’m trying to describe. My main complaint is that they’ve chosen to do away with the “old” “church modes” — Dorian, Phrygian, et. Anyways, if this is a vision of the future for music in our Reformed churc...

A personal paraphrase of Psalm 137:1-7. We are the homeless here: held captive. In silence, and unwanted; taunted. They jibe “so where is your God now? We sit by muddy gutters fed. By our tears. Truth? It trickles, mute,. From flick’ring streetlamps, and our songs. 8212; our songs? As if the dumb could sing. We could remember every ray.

Monday, April 27, 2009. Some ponderings as of late. I've been thinking about my Grandma a lot lately and have decided that she's basically a super hero - which is why we call her Supergrams. She brought up 7 sweeeet kids, my mother included, and is now a very committed gramma to over 40 people. She's survived a lot of major health problems - she's basically a medical miracle. She's one of the strongest people I know and I look up to her so much. My Supergrams is definetly one of my greatest heroes. Somet...

So dear Betster, you wanted me to blog again. This week you were tucked into your final bed. We got together to celebrate your life and to mourn your passing. Instead we watched you be lowered into the ground into a bare spot in the middle of the snow. My dear, four score and one friend. You told me often enough. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

In payment for the nectar of the apple blossoms. Tuesday, May 14, 2013. I photograph birds, vibrant against blossoms,. I feed the family, clean the house, sit on committees,. I do the laundry, teach the children, work in the garden. And I wonder how life can be so good for me. While it has just shattered for another family.

Tuesday, May 14, 2013. I photograph birds, vibrant against blossoms,. I feed the family, clean the house, sit on committees,. I do the laundry, teach the children, work in the garden. And I wonder how life can be so good for me. While it has just shattered for another family. And how shattered families is commonplace in other countries. And I simply cannot begin to understand how that feels. How can such ugliness be? Why must it be? I hold my children close and want the peace and beauty to last forever.
