Garfield School Design Team. James A. Garfield High School. Is one of the flagship high schools in the Seattle Public Schools. Originally opened in 1923, the buildings and grounds will undergo a $78.8 million renovation starting in June, 2006, and completing in September, 2008, under the aegis of the SPS Facilities Department. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ). When is James A. Garfield High School. Going to be closed, in order to begin construction on the "New Garfield"? After the last day of school in June 2006, we will close the current Garfield building in order to begin construction. Where is the interim location for Garfield during the construction period? Garfield will be housed at the former Lincoln High School site, on 43rd and Interlake, in the Wallingford District of Seattle. Two school years: 2006-2007 and 2007-2008.
