Smiling at the Future

Smiling at the Future. Friday, July 04, 2008. The dictionary defines compassion as, "sympathetic consciousness of others' distress with a desire to alleviate it." This kind of compassion is not too rare in our world and in my own life. We are sympathetic to others in their distress, and would like to help, especially if it's convenient. But too often it stops right there. We might desire to help, but don't always take action. We see many other examples of this in the gospels. Matthew 20:29-34 tells of tw...

Smiling at the Future: Sense and Sensibility: The Heart

http://smilingatthefuture.blogspot.com/2008/06/sense-and-sensibility-heart.html

Smiling at the Future. Friday, June 06, 2008. Sense and Sensibility: The Heart. The Biblical heart if very different than modern American thinking. In the Bible, the heart is the core of the inner being. It includes our thinking, our emotions, our desires, our will. Watch over your heart with all diligence, for from it flow the springs of life. 2 Corinthians 10:5 exhorts us to. Take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ. In her book,. That was such a good analogy! I think the key is to reach o...

Smiling at the Future. Friday, June 27, 2008. Psalms: Shout it Out! The Psalms exhort us to speak of God, exalting His excellencies, proclaiming His wonders for all to hear. I will give thanks to the Lord with all my heart; I will tell of all Thy wonders. And my tongue shall declare Thy righteousness and Thy praise all day long. My mouth shall tell of Thy righteousness, and of Thy salvation all day long. Let's be faithful to eagerly proclaim God's greatness and the salvation that only He can give. I have...

Smiling at the Future: January 2007

http://smilingatthefuture.blogspot.com/2007_01_01_archive.html

Smiling at the Future. Monday, January 22, 2007. Pursue Avenues of Spiritual Growth. The beautiful path is the path to spiritual maturity. Over the next several posts, we will look at three keys on that path. The first key is to Pursue Avenues of Spiritual Growth. While the Spirit is at work in the life of every true believer, and no growth happens apart from His work, that does not mean that the path to spiritual maturity requires no effort on the part of the believer. Quite the contrary. The Greek word...

Smiling at the Future: Sense and Sensibility: Speech

http://smilingatthefuture.blogspot.com/2008/06/sense-and-sensibility-speech.html

Smiling at the Future. Wednesday, June 04, 2008. Sense and Sensibility: Speech. Words are powerful- for good or evil, to build up or to tear down, to comfort or to criticize. So it is important that our speech is sensible. The Bible has much to say about our speech. Luke 6:45 reminds us that our mouths speak from that which fills our hearts. So this is not only a tongue issue, it’s a heart issue. It’s definitely an area where God wants us to demonstrate self-control, to be sensible. So she doesn’t ...

Smiling at the Future: June 2006

http://smilingatthefuture.blogspot.com/2006_06_01_archive.html

Smiling at the Future. Wednesday, June 21, 2006. This year my husband gave me a very unique birthday present, a new puppy! We have had a few dogs in the past, but the kind I have always wanted is a golden retriever. So here is my present; we call him Buddy. Buddy is 8 weeks old today. He is adjusting well to his new home and new family. He does the usual puppy things- play friskily followed by plenty of napping. He has a stuffed bear he likes to wrestle with- sometimes I'm not sure who wins! Two things s...

Step Onto Liquid: September 2005

http://stepontoliquid.blogspot.com/2005_09_01_archive.html

Thursday, September 29, 2005. From Pride to Humility. From Theory to Practice. College is in full swing. I'm starting to have exams. Projects are starting to be due. So what do I do for the weekend? I go to the Generations Bible Study Retreat in Santa Barbara. Last weekend at the Cabrillo Inn at the Beach, we had a great time of fun, food, relaxing at the beach, playing midnight Mafia, and learning great truths from God's Word. The main topics of discussion for the weekend were pride and humility. As muc...

Step Onto Liquid: November 2005

http://stepontoliquid.blogspot.com/2005_11_01_archive.html

Friday, November 11, 2005. I'm psyched out of my mind again. It has been my great blessing to be involved in the music ministry at Generations. I am on a rotating team of musicians who serve by leading worship. The environment is awesome! For the past few years I have been leading music in chapel and in a high school group, and I often look out and see people staring into space, looking down, clearly disengaged with the singing. At Generations everyone is singing! I'd Rather Have Jesus. Here I sit in the...

Step Onto Liquid: May 2006

http://stepontoliquid.blogspot.com/2006_05_01_archive.html

Wednesday, May 31, 2006. I am making a conscience effort to keep track of the days and weeks of my summer in order to avoid that unfortunate morning when I wake up and say, "Oh snap! There are only two more weeks left of summer." So far, my summer has been a flurry of activity. I spent week one (of thirteen summer weeks) traveling to Texas and all over California. Well, that does it for the Week 3 update. Hopefully I'll post some tomorrow or Friday about the Beatitudes. Peace. Friday, May 26, 2006. My mo...

Step Onto Liquid: April 2006

http://stepontoliquid.blogspot.com/2006_04_01_archive.html

Thursday, April 20, 2006. For All Who Will Follow. Another Thursday night has come and gone, and so has another Generations (group pic from about a month ago above). God has used Generations to bless me in so many ways, and tonight was no exception. Joey Newton delivered a powerful message on these verses. True discipleship goes against everything the world tells us. I noticed two distinctives of discipleship:. We must lose ourselves in this life. We gain everything in Christ. The chorus says,. Raise me ...

Step Onto Liquid: October 2005

http://stepontoliquid.blogspot.com/2005_10_01_archive.html

Sunday, October 23, 2005. Here I sit on a gorgeous Sunday afternoon reading and writing about poetry. Now depending on who you are, that's really good or that's really bad. I happen to enjoy well-written poetry. With an economy of words it captures beauty better than possibly any other written medium. Let's face it: God's creation is AWESOME! God's creation should also give a sense of responsibility. We should always remember that God is the one who created what we see, and that should remind us that...

Smiling at Magpies

Smiling at Magpies refers to happiness often being just about how you choose to see things. As with a lot of things in my life, it takes me a while to catch on, but I usually get there in the end. Smiling at Tomorrow

Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she smiles at the future. Proverbs 31:25. What a boring title. However, It will have to do since I don't have any creativity left tonight! For the first time this year, I have three students! Gator is in 5th grade, Bull is in 2nd grade, and Monkey is in Pre-K. I have no idea how I'm going to schedule our time this year. I'm still working on that! Fortunately, we won't start until after Labor Day, so I have a bit of time to figure that out! I use this planner.
