December 3, 2016. Spicy Not Pork Donburi. Donburi appears to be Japanese for “stuff on top of rice”, so Spicy Pork Donburi. Should be dead simple to whip up in under half an hour for dinner. I was chatting online and has mentioned that there was some leftover veg curry I could reheat, but I fancied something with meat in it. July 31, 2016. Bavette with Chimichurri Sauce. So we recently saw a recipe for Chimichurri Sauce. which appears to be a list of things we love: chillies, more chillies, garlic, vinegar, olive oil, herbs… The recipe also included steak and chips. Bavette steak appears to be what yanks call flank steak, and I couldn’t find it, so sirloin pressed thin will have to do. (yeah. I could only get sirloin, , first world problems….). Things start by puttig all our favourite foods in a blender. Corn on the cob.

We gave away a number of jars, but we’ve still got an excess of the stuff, so we looked around for recipes to use it up and found this nice recipe for lamb steaks. July 10, 2016. Potato Scones with Avocado and Poached Eggs. Leftover mashed potato isn’t a thing in this house, so we don’t get to make things from mash very often. But this morning I’m deliberately making mash so I can make potato scones. With mash and avocado mix thing made, it’s all just about timing. It starts well…. But when I put the eggs in I turned down the scones, so they didn’t really firm up properly :(. So more of re-heated mashed potato than scones… but it still all tasted delicious!

December 17, 2016. We’ve got lots of dried fruit and nuts left over from the Christmas cakes Soph has made. Cakes that will not be ready until next week. So to tide us over I’m using them up to make a panforte. This is dead easy, just mis chopped fruit and nuts with a little flour an spices. Melt honey, sugar and Marsala on the hob. Prepare a springform pan. Then mix together wet and dry and pop in the tin. Back to the panforte, it goes in a 140C fan oven for 35mins, then cools in the tin for 10 minutes.

July 2, 2016. Rhubarb and Custard Cake. Garden rhubarb is going well, which is a great excuse to make this rhubarb and custard cake. It starts with roasting tossing the rhubarb in sugar and a little salt, then roasting it off to soften up. Then it’s a simple all-in-one mix with bought (! Or it would be simple if I’d let the butter soften properly… as it it I’ve got a lumpy mix :(. Then layer the mix and rhubarb into a spring-form cake tin, and top with extra custard. Let cool.
