Den presenterar ein dramatisert versjon av opprøret som skjedde i 1905 av det Russiske kampskipet Potemkin mot deira offiserar og Tsaristanes styremåte. Ei scene som er spessielt kjend frå filmen er trappescena i Odessa. Det som skjer der er at russarane går ned trappa og skyt mange personar. Media er eit veldig lur...
