Vic Moffatt: November 2012

Tuesday, 20 November 2012. Value-based pricing - meh or yeah? Value-based pricing. Whats then then? Well, the clue is in the name. Your client pays you what they think youre worth. Or more correctly, they pay you the amount they think the work you do for them is worth. Sounds scary, right? Links to this post. Tuesday, 13 November 2012. The Battle of the Billable Hours. Vic Moffatt: UK Blawg Review 8 --- Change!
http://www.vicmoffatt.com/2011/08/uk-blawg-review-8-change.html
Tuesday, 16 August 2011. UK Blawg Review 8 - - Change! Well, what an honour. I have been asked to host the next blawg review, which will go live on this, my blog, on 30th September 2011. See below for image attribution. When I was first asked to host the blawg review, I thought I would have to really rack my brains (and those of everyone I know! For a suitable theme. In fact; it actually came to me very easily and surprisingly quickly. That theme is simply: CHANGE. I know of, and converse regularly with,...

Vic Moffatt: Get Back
http://www.vicmoffatt.com/2012/09/get-back.html
Monday, 24 September 2012. All in all, probably a good title for this latest post as I have, in fact, been away for a few months. In July an opportunity arose for me to take a career break and indulge in a little travelling. Whoop! In my view, as someone who has harboured a bit of a fantasy of exploring south-east Asia since around 1996, it would simply have been rude not to go. Your feedback is always appreciated so please let me know what youre thinking. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Gosh, its be...

Vic Moffatt: August 2011

Friday, 26 August 2011. The Fear of Blog. I'm not quite sure what is wrong with me at the moment but I seem to have developed a slight fear of blogging. Other than my recent post on #UKBR8. I have been hiding away for a while. In the same way that I'd feel sad for a homeless puppy, the thought of an abandoned blog fills me with sorrow. This is enough to stop me from quitting right now. So why the fear? At the minute, I still believe in what I have to say, but I'm in limbo between law and PR. When I was f...

Vic Moffatt: Homeworking for lawyers... A guest post by Steven Mather.
http://www.vicmoffatt.com/2011/07/homeworking-for-lawyers-guest-post-by.html
Sunday, 31 July 2011. Homeworking for lawyers. A guest post by Steven Mather. There have been reports recently that the Government have asked up to 40% of Whitehall staff to work from home during next year's Olympics. The Government have urged other business to consider the benefits of letting employees work from home. And yet for lawyers, in my experience, working from home is a luxury, a perk, that you get with partnership. That, and being able to claim more petrol receipts. But why is that? The system...

Vic Moffatt: The Battle of the Billable Hours...
http://www.vicmoffatt.com/2012/11/the-battle-of-billable-hours.html
Tuesday, 13 November 2012. The Battle of the Billable Hours. Just Need. To. Record. One. More. Hour. You know the score, right? You work as hard as you can for 7, 8, 9 hours a day to record 6, 7, 8 hours of billable time. Don't you? Maybe you're always ahead of the clock, maybe you're always behind, maybe you're just right, and your billable hours, and actual hours are the same. I doubt it, but I suppose it could happen. So, what does this system mean? But what about everybody else? This Weeks Most Read.

Vic Moffatt: PR - This Much I Know
http://www.vicmoffatt.com/2011/11/pr-this-much-i-know.html
Wednesday, 30 November 2011. PR - This Much I Know. It has been a long time since I last blogged. I've missed it. A LOT! That said, I no longer have such an epic commute into work and home again (3 hours at last count - now about 12 minutes), so I'm hoping I can get nicely back into it. Well - life in PR seems to be treating me well. I'm loving it and it seems (I hope! To suit me. The first thing I've learnt is that getting coverage is ACE! What else have I learnt? Some things are not so new. My tool...

Yet more news emerges of large commercial law firms setting up “near-shoring”. This tempts the question how will this work be replaced? How then will firms adapt to this self-inflicted work redistribution conundrum? Will we see pay cuts?
