Stethoscopes and Stories

My accounts of medical education and the profession, with a healthy dose of politics, current events, and the finer things in life. Thursday, September 19, 2013. Alex, I will take "What's in a residency application" for $2,000. Its residency application season. Woooo! This means medical students get to keep suit makers and seamstresses in business yet another year as we have to brush up (or buy new of) the oh-so-formal business attire. Meh It took me years. In med school to wrap my brain around this one.

Stethoscopes and Stories: December 2012

http://www.stethoscopesandstories.blogspot.com/2012_12_01_archive.html

My accounts of medical education and the profession, with a healthy dose of politics, current events, and the finer things in life. Saturday, December 29, 2012. In Review: Obstetrics and Gynecology. Tis time for the end-of-rotation review. I do like these because it allows me to write down some concrete thoughts in reference to my experiences after I've had some decent time to process. With no further ado. I mean, does it really get any better than this? End nerdy gyn rant. Estrogen fest ALL day long!

Stethoscopes and Stories: Bienvenue to 4th year!

http://www.stethoscopesandstories.blogspot.com/2013/05/bienvenue-to-4th-year.html

My accounts of medical education and the profession, with a healthy dose of politics, current events, and the finer things in life. Saturday, May 18, 2013. Bienvenue to 4th year! Hot damn time flies! I took my very last Shelf on a Friday and by Monday, I was technically a 4th year student. A bit anti-climactic really. Although, I was quick off the blocks in terms of changing my signature on my school email. Ha! So how have I spent these first three weeks of my sacred year? This is my last. I am currently...

My accounts of medical education and the profession, with a healthy dose of politics, current events, and the finer things in life. Saturday, April 6, 2013. Three weeks left of third year. I can't believe that I will be a fourth year student at the end of this month. Crazy insane and insane crazy. Honestly, my biggest fear about medical school (and medicine as a career in general) is that I would change into a person I didn't like. I fear this might have happened already. My one saving grace, I t...For o...

My accounts of medical education and the profession, with a healthy dose of politics, current events, and the finer things in life. Monday, July 23, 2012. No, I don't mean the intense desire to eat my weight in watermelon. Or the daily need for cherry slushies. I mean the term used to describe the alleged increase in patient harm that occurs in US hospitals in July. Before all too recently, this statement was merely anecdotal without much data to back it up. Things are a changin'. The July Effect - Hospi...

My accounts of medical education and the profession, with a healthy dose of politics, current events, and the finer things in life. Sunday, March 17, 2013. Oh sweet lordy. Third year dost have my soul. Anyways, I hope to start posting again soon enough. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). I am currently a fourth year medical student. I had various other academic and working adventures before coming to medical school, so I suppose that I am one of those pesky non-traditional medical students. My attempt i...Fryli...

White Coat Tales: February 2014

http://whitecoatails.blogspot.com/2014_02_01_archive.html

Friday, February 28, 2014. In my last post I talked about how I was going to be stepping back from my research for a bit after some set-backs occurred. Well, I was wrong. My research mentor actually wants to move to the next step of re-submitting for IRB approval with modifications like right now. So, I thought. I was only going to have to worry about planning Mirth for the next two weeks (which is plenty to handle itself), butttttt I was wrong. Man, at least I can say I really ended 4th year with a bang!

White Coat Tales: November 2013

http://whitecoatails.blogspot.com/2013_11_01_archive.html

Monday, November 4, 2013. I was starting to panic that BF and I didn't have enough interviews in overlapping geographical areas, but we met with one of our deans, and he assured us that we should be OK. *Should be* Not exactly a phrase that makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside, haha, but hey, I'll take what I can get. Anyway, see what I did there? I've been trying to use my free time to spend time with family and friends. See below! BF and I were ninjas for Halloween. J came to Sacramento too!

Sunday, May 26, 2013. I Must Be A Masochist. TGS2CKIO. (Thank goodness Step 2 CK is over). The actual test was a bit harder than I anticipated, but if I score anywhere near my practice test score, I'll be happy. Unlike Step 1, however, the 9 hours seemed to fly by. At least it's over! And I am so glad BF and I got it out of the way, especially while all the material from third year was "fresh" in our minds. Fingers crossed while I wait for my score! Dr Coffee's Brain Banter. This week break went by way.

Tuesday, June 25, 2013. And On To The Next One. I can't believe I made it through a month of SICU relatively unscathed. It was actually enjoyable. Yep, that's right. I said it. Enjoyable. Thursday, April 24, 2014. Back To Where It All Started. Before I talk about our moving adventures, I think I'm just gonna go ahead and spill the beans about where we ended up matching. I'm always hesitant to disclose any information that is too identifying on this blog, for fear that it may be held against me professionally. However, I think there are enough programs in our city that you wouldn't even be able to guess which. Here goes: We're going to Philadelphia, y'all! Okay, now I'm going to carry on.

Tuesday, June 17, 2014. Graduation week was a blur. Got to spend a lot of time with family and friends, which was lovely. Said goodbye to a lot of amazing friends that I've made over the past four years, which was bittersweet. My mentor and IDOL! Yes, they played a Beyonce video at my graduation (I was here). It was fantastic. June 21, 2014 at 8:34 PM. Enjoy the celebrations.you deserve them. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. So long, Volvo. The One With the Red Stethoscope.

White Coat Tales: August 2013

http://whitecoatails.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html

Friday, August 30, 2013. Dear Right Side of Brain, Please Wake Up. One of the unfortunate consequences of going into a super left-sided-brain profession, is that if you don't make an effort to nurture the right side of your brain, it atrophies*. I can make a ton of excuses about lack of time, lack of energy, blah blah blah. But the truth of the matter is that I have done a piss-poor job of paying attention to my right brain. My various attempts at pretty nails. When I made these cute uteri magnets. This ...

Saturday, July 20, 2013. Back In OB/Gyn Land. I'm halfway through my Gyn Onc Sub-I (aka AI/Acting Internship), and I am so. Glad to be back with my people. I realized it's been almost a year since I've done any OB/Gyn rotation, so I'm a little rusty on some stuff, but it's all coming back to me. I never rotated through Gyn Onc as a third year, so a lot of the oncology material is new to me, but that's why I'm really glad I chose this particular Sub-I, because I'm learning a ton. Stethoscopes and Scrubs

Monday, July 28, 2014. I am trying to decide what to do with this blog. It still gets consistent hits each week, but I don't feel like I have anything that exciting to talk about. Since I'm no longer in school, I don't have advice to give nursing students like I did in the past. All right, anyone have anything you want to ask me about being a school nurse? Any suggestions for posts? Links to this post. Thursday, April 24, 2014. I just read this. Links to this post. Sunday, August 18, 2013. Tomorrow is th...
