The Falklands

Sunday, 11 January 2015. Thanks to Bruce I am at last able to see where my friend Paul (Tally) Talman is buried in Manchester. Tally was tragically killed in a car accident in Cyprus in 1984. I often wonder how many lives would have been different if this hadn't happened. Thursday, 25 September 2014. If anybody is in Stockholm on Wednesday October 8th and would like to attend a free lecture I am giving on the Falklands War at the Swedish military Academy in Karlberg please let me know. So I kicked off at...

The Falklands: A book review on Return to Tumbledown: The Falklands-Malvinas War Revisited

http://stevecocksfalklands.blogspot.com/2012/09/a-book-review-on-return-to-tumbledown_23.html

Sunday, 23 September 2012. A book review on Return to Tumbledown: The Falklands-Malvinas War Revisited. Time has ceased to have any relevant meaning for me at this moment, so I stop again and take another break. I think “Mike you asshole you have to stop writing this stuff, it is not helpful.” So I continue to skip around the book and find McTeague’s haunting post-war account and this does a real J O B on my head. Postage is free to any part of the world. 10 March 2013 at 20:29. 4 January 2015 at 10:31.

The Falklands: September 2011

http://stevecocksfalklands.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html

Monday, 5 September 2011. Falklands 25. A Soldiers Story. At 210 into Part 3 Alan Crawford of 1 Platoon Right Flank (he was the platoon Sergeant at the time) recalls what he can remember from that night. Sunday, 4 September 2011. I was looking on the Falklands 30 reunion event page on facebook and noticed that Gordon Graham had posted a group photo of Right Flank. Fine bunch of men. As there are precious few photos with me in it I got to wondering if I was there, and what do you know I am :). However its...

The Falklands: October 2012

http://stevecocksfalklands.blogspot.com/2012_10_01_archive.html

Friday, 12 October 2012. Gave a talk at Karlberg yesterday. Had the great pleasure to present my first official presentation at Karlberg yesterday for the cadets. Went really well and some really nice feedback from both the cadets and instructors. Of course there are things I wish I had done better but that will have to wait for next time. Next talk is to the Rotary Club in 2 weeks time but I only have 45 minutes! So going to have to work on a very short version. Found an interesting clip featuring Tim.

The Falklands: June 2014

http://stevecocksfalklands.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html

Tuesday, 10 June 2014. Presentation to the Rotary Club. I was invited recently to give another presentation to the rotary club. This time it was the city branch and I was told I had 30 minutes, which to be honest is a little short, however I cut down my material and went determined to give my best. Was by far my worst presentation to date and I felt embarrassed to have done so badly. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Links about the Falklands. Royal Army Pay Corp. Steve's Biking Blog: July 2009

http://stevecocksbike.blogspot.com/2009_07_01_archive.html

Tuesday, 14 July 2009. Day 8 - Lund to Malmo. Many years ago when Susie and I arrived back In Sweden after a particularly long holiday touring Italy we told the lady at SJ (Swedish Railways) just what a pleasure it was to be back in Sweden after all our troubles we had in Italy. We came back from that holiday with many good dinner party stories of how things are done in Italy and how fustrating things were. Well I have one now I can tell about Sweden, the county where I thought they get everything right.

Steve's Biking Blog: Day 1 - Copenhagen to Rudkøbing

http://stevecocksbike.blogspot.com/2015/06/day-1-copenhagen-to-rudkbing.html

Tuesday, 23 June 2015. Day 1 - Copenhagen to Rudkøbing. Stayed at the Urbanhouse which is a hostel we found last time Susie and I were in Copenhagen. They do a wicked veggie hotdog. I chose to stay in the 10 man room only to find it was mixed! Lunch was perfectly timed as it rained very hard while I ate, then stopped when I was ready to leave. The afternoon ride was of course tougher. Legs were tired energy levels fluctuating and the wind was pretty much head on at times. No wonder the area is do...Showe...

Friday, 27 June 2014. Day 8 - Strömstad to Uddevala. And that's the end for this year. Last night's stay in Strömstad was very pleasant though the hotel was a disappointment. Up and out early as I needed to get to Uddevalla in good time. Great cycling with only a couple of really crappie roads to contend. One was so overgrown I was seriously expecting to just end in a forest clearing! So posted her back and caught the train. Back in Stockholm tonight in my own bed and a hug from Susie! Good night's sleep...

Steve's Biking Blog: Day 4 - Eckernförde to Boltenhagen

http://stevecocksbike.blogspot.com/2015/06/day-4-eckernforde-to-boltenhagen.html

Friday, 26 June 2015. Day 4 - Eckernförde to Boltenhagen. Great meal last night sitting ion the hotel veranda overlooking the harbour. Asked for a local fish dish and something typically German for desert, wasn't quite expecting something that tasted like Cherry Nypoon Soppa with ice-cream on the top but what the heck. On the road by 0740 and did my best to follow the B76 but its wasn't easy. The bike lane continually vanished or took me on wide 5-10km loops (or so it seemed! Tough navigation to follow t...

Steve's Biking Blog: August 2010

http://stevecocksbike.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html

Wednesday, 25 August 2010. Day 14/15 – August 23rd and 24th - Travelling Home. Getting back tool 2 days primarily because I couldn’t plan things to be too close to each other. Having arrived in Kemi yesterday I could have in theory taken the train down to Turkhu (if I had left Haparanda earlier). But this would have been a close call and frankly it was nice not to have to stress out and rush. Train left at 0830 and an hour later we arrived in Oulu where I had to wait until 1545! Steve's Biking Blog: April 2013

http://stevecocksbike.blogspot.com/2013_04_01_archive.html

Tuesday, 30 April 2013. Day 3 - Riihimäki to Kuovola. Today was destined to be a tough day and it certainly didn't disappoint. I calculated that today was going to be about 130KM which didn't seem too difficult. However due to a slight change of plan I didn't plan on staying in Kuovola but instead catch the 1722 to Helsinki with the intent of meeting up an old friend who I hadn't seen in 11 years. I didn't sleep so well as I was way too hot and bed so narrow I thought I was going to fall out! Reached the...

Sunday, 28 June 2015. Day 5 - Boltenhagen to Rostock. Trip over was relaxing and arrived back in Sweden about 2100. The train that I was going to catch doesn't start running until December so I tried my luck with a local bus. No problem as they all have bike racks on the back of the bus, why the hell don't they do this in Stockholm! Found the hotel, really nice to be back in familiar territory and home tomorrow.
