Steve Does Dr Who: Asylum of the Daleks - Review.
http://stevedoesdrwho.blogspot.com/2012/09/asylum-of-daleks-review.html
Wednesday, 12 September 2012. Asylum of the Daleks - Review. Esponsibility, it’s a terrible thing. There I was, determined not to bother reviewing this series of. On the grounds that reviewing old comic books. And old editions of. Top of the Pops. Is more than enough work for one lifetime - when a seething public demand has forced me to return from the grave. Well, that’s all well and good but, given my mixed feelings about last year’s series, will I be impressed by what I find? Asylum of the Daleks.
Steve Does Dr Who: A Town Called Mercy. Review.
http://stevedoesdrwho.blogspot.com/2012/09/a-town-called-mercy-review.html
Saturday, 15 September 2012. A Town Called Mercy. Review. Peaking as someone who's only ever seen four Westerns all the way through, and one of them was Carry on Cowboy. I was always going to approach a Wild West themed episode of Doctor Who. With the wariness of an ageing rattlesnake. But, with the open-mindedness that's made me as big a legend on the plains as Calamity Jane, that didn't stop me sitting down to watch it. A Town Called Mercy. Finds our heroes confronting a problem. As in that episode, it...
Steve Does Dr Who: The Power of Three. Review.
http://stevedoesdrwho.blogspot.com/2012/09/DrWhoPowerOfThree.html
Saturday, 22 September 2012. The Power of Three. Review. S a hip-swivelling king of Rock and Roll, I know there's nothing ruins a party more than a bunch of squares. But what about a bunch of cubes? That's what the Doctor has to work out as the world wakes one morning to find a zillion and one of the things lying around in the streets. It's pretty obvious right from the start that this is an attempt to do another, "At home with the Doctor," story along the lines of The Lodger. On the guest star front, St...
Steve Does Dr Who: Season 6: an overview.
http://stevedoesdrwho.blogspot.com/2011/10/season-6-overview.html
Tuesday, 4 October 2011. Season 6: an overview. Man rarely enjoys being split in two, and so the question was how would Dr Who. Cope with 2011 being a year of two halves? Well, the way it started suggested it'd cope quite nicely as The Impossible Astronaut. Its follow-up - The Day of the Moon. Suffered from a poorly judged beginning, the equivalent of a bad writer declaring, "With one mighty bound he was free! Sadly, after this, things quickly took a downturn. The Curse of the Black Spot. Which the criti...
Steve Does Dr Who: Let's Kill Hitler. Review.
http://stevedoesdrwho.blogspot.com/2011/08/lets-kill-hitler-review.html
Saturday, 27 August 2011. Let's Kill Hitler. Review. The world's longest-running sci-fi show's back! And that means it's time for not-quite-the-world's-longest-running-blog to cast off its mothballs, dust itself down, straighten its bow tie and fling itself once more into the Time Stream. Or, then again, perhaps not. While Hitler surviving may or may not be good news, one thing that definitely is. Good news is that, in the melee, the mind-bogglingly annoying Mels is hit by a stray bullet. The not so good...

Steve Does Sheffield: March 2014
http://stevedoessheffield.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html
In which our hero posts photos of interest to him in his own city. Friday, 28 March 2014. Lees Hall, Gleadless. Pond near the site of Lees Hall Farm -. CC BY-SA 2.0. Having done that, they then bulldozed the rubble into the house's duck pond, in order to completely remove all signs that any such thing had ever existed. This is of course one of the great architectural scandals of Sheffield and would never be allowed today. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Subscribe To This Blog. I inflicted...

Steve Does Sheffield: October 2013
http://stevedoessheffield.blogspot.com/2013_10_01_archive.html
In which our hero posts photos of interest to him in his own city. Tuesday, 22 October 2013. Re-used under this Creative Commons License. When it was announced in the late 1980s that they were going to do up and re-open the Lyceum Theatre, I thought it was madness. What a squalid and appalling looking building it was, surely fit only for demolition. I must admit that my entire experience of having been inside the Lyceum is of attending a version of Dick Whittington. And you know what? Links to this post.

In which our hero posts photos of interest to him in his own city. Thursday, 21 November 2013. Photo by Matthew Hatton [ CC-BY-SA-2.0. Some things in life seem designed to make you feel old. Don Valley Stadium is one of them. Since then, various things that were built in my childhood have fallen by the wayside but now, as though to rub it in, they're demolishing things that were built in my mid-twenties. What kind of madness is this? Links to this post. Labels: Don Valley Stadium. Subscribe To This Blog.

Steve Does Sheffield: Castle Market.
http://stevedoessheffield.blogspot.com/2013/12/CastleMarketSheffield.html
In which our hero posts photos of interest to him in his own city. Monday, 2 December 2013. And licensed for reuse under this Creative Commons Licence. In a tragedy for all lovers of rampantly lunatic architecture, Sheffield's Castle Market was closed down last week, to be replaced by a spanking new indoor market at the bottom of the Moor. From comments on various sites, it seems few'll miss it. But I certainly will. I'll miss it for three reasons. Likewise with its oddly labyrinthine interior that left ...

Steve Does Sheffield: King Edward VII School.
http://stevedoessheffield.blogspot.com/2014/02/king-edward-vii-school.html
In which our hero posts photos of interest to him in his own city. Sunday, 2 February 2014. King Edward VII School. Photo by Wikityke at en.wikipedia [ GFDL. There are times when it seems like every single famous person from Sheffield went to the same school as each other. And that school is King Edward VII. Who seems to be permanently pregnant, went there. Of course, that impression's completely false - as I. Admittedly, being so visible might make some feel it would serve poorly as a, "Secret," headqua...

Steve Does Sheffield: January 2014

In which our hero posts photos of interest to him in his own city. Friday, 31 January 2014. Mappin Art Gallery and City Museum, Weston Park. Photo by Oosoom at en.wikipedia (Transferred from en.wikipedia). The museum first opened in 1875 and was totally refurbished between 2003 and 2006. It attracts 250,000 visitors a year. The art gallery was closed in the 1950s and 1960s, having been hit by a bomb and partially demolished during the war. Dinosaurs aren't just ugly, they can also be a major letdown.

In which our hero posts photos of interest to him in his own city. Sunday, 1 September 2013. St Paul's Tower, Arundel Gate. And licensed for reuse under this Creative Commons Licence. Because you the reader demanded it! It started out as the Conran Tower. Then it was, "City Lofts." Then it was St Paul's Tower. But, whatever you call it, you can't ignore it. At thirty two storeys, stuck atop a hill overlooking the railway station, it's Sheffield's tallest and most visible building. A quick Google for imag...

In which our hero posts photos of interest to him in his own city. Thursday, 29 August 2013. Banner's department store, Attercliffe. By Warofdreams (Own work) [ CC-BY-SA-3.0. When I was growing up, I knew nothing of the existence of Banner's department store. For that matter, I knew nothing of Attercliffe itself. Steve Does Comics
Comic Book blatherings from the backyard of nostalgia. How to Grade Comics. Wednesday, 12 August 2015. Forty years ago today - August 1975. F the internet's to be believed, the Perseid meteor shower's going to be lighting up our skies tonight. I have no doubt that, by tomorrow morning, the entire population of the world will be blind and we'll all be fleeing from murderous vegetables that can only be killed by sea water. In the meantime, here's a look at what Marvel were up to exactly forty years ago.
Steve Does Dr Who
Saturday, 29 September 2012. The Angels Take Manhattan. Review. Warning - Spoilers! F there's one thing we've ever learned from Doctor Who. Over the years, it's that there must come a time when every assistant must depart. Sometimes they get to blow up in spaceships. Sometimes they decide to marry someone they've only just met. And, for a very unlucky few, sometimes they simply vanish from the show with no acknowledgement they were ever in it. It'd be nice to say it's a heart-rending send-off but the tru...

Steve Does Everything
Trapped in his Fortress of Attitude, our hero tries to make sense of the world around him. Monday, 24 October 2011. Planet Dinosaur: The past was Wilde. Ike a lot of people with too much time on their hands, I've been watching the BBC TV show Planet Dinosaur. And never cease to marvel at scientists' ability to keep making up new dinosaurs - even if the ones in the show seem overly-lively in their movements, to me. Posted by Steve W. Links to this post. Sunday, 10 October 2010. And yet, despite the obviou...
