Sorry, wrong blog: December 2008
http://ohsorrywrongblog.blogspot.com/2008_12_01_archive.html
Friday, December 19, 2008. What can i say, i'm a libra. I am of two minds on the choice of rick warren to lead the invocation at obama's inauguration. this is terribly convenient for me because there are 2 mindsets to have: it is a good idea or it is a bad idea. i choose both. We have to acknowledge that obama is the president of all of the nut-job right wing idealogues as well. He wants to, and needs to, reach out to them. Links to this post. Tuesday, December 9, 2008. Another one bites the dust. This d...

Sorry, wrong blog: November 2008
http://ohsorrywrongblog.blogspot.com/2008_11_01_archive.html
Monday, November 17, 2008. So it is destroying marriage, is that right? People wanting to get married is destroying it - do i follow you so far? And the reason that gay marriage is so destructive is that the bible defines marriage as between a man in a woman so anything that goes against that is destructive and wrong. have i got it so far? Okay, so i can't help but wonder:. And if this seems an unfavorable course of action to you than please answer just one more question: how is it that you can choose to...

Criterion Confessions: BRAND UPON THE BRAIN! - #440
http://www.criterionconfessions.com/2008/07/brand-upon-brain-440.html
A survey of the Criterion Collection on DVD by Jamie S. Rich. Wednesday, July 30, 2008. BRAND UPON THE BRAIN! 2006), newly released by Criterion. Whether Brand Upon the Brain! Is an exercise in pseudo-autobiography, its fractured editing style meant to reflect the fractured memory that is emerging from Maddin's subconscious. Broken into twelve chapters (plus one interlude) and featuring intertitles that appear in choppy fragments, Brand Upon the Brain! Brand Upon the Brain! If I had to choose, I'd choose...

Criterion Confessions: THE ESSENTIAL JACQUES DEMY: DONKEY SKIN - #718
http://www.criterionconfessions.com/2014/08/the-essential-jacques-demy-donkey-skin.html
A survey of the Criterion Collection on DVD by Jamie S. Rich. Sunday, August 17, 2014. THE ESSENTIAL JACQUES DEMY: DONKEY SKIN - #718. Though all of his musicals had fairy tale elements to them, Jacques Demy waited until 1970 to embrace the genre in full, adapting Charles Perrault's Donkey Skin. For a big-screen, live-action version of a Disney cartoon. Catherine Deneuve once again stars, playing both the Queen and the Princess, a smart device given the film's darker plot developments. As Donkey Skin.

A survey of the Criterion Collection on DVD by Jamie S. Rich. Wednesday, November 28, 2007. EARLY BERGMAN - ECLIPSE SERIES 1. Everyone seems to have exclusive rights to hell. 8211; Valborg (Mimmi Nelson) in Ingmar Bergman's Thirst. Is the first set of movies in this series, and it brings together five pictures by legendary Swedish director Ingmar Bergman from before the career upswing that began with 1955's Smiles of a Summer Night. As the pinnacle of that kind of flattery. Having stood behind the ca...

A survey of the Criterion Collection on DVD by Jamie S. Rich. Sunday, August 31, 2014. THE ESSENTIAL JACQUES DEMY: UN CHAMBRE EN VILLE/THE WORLD OF JACQUES DEMY - #719. For the final selection in The Essential Jacques Demy. We don’t exactly go back to the start, but at least back to the high point of the director’s career. 1982’s Une chambre en ville. Is a distant cousin of The Umbrellas of Cherbourg. Unsurprisingly, this puts her on a collision course with Francois, who falls for her completely. It&...

A survey of the Criterion Collection on DVD by Jamie S. Rich. Monday, December 31, 2007. THE FIRST FILMS OF SAMUEL FULLER - ECLIPSE SERIES 5. This past July at Comic-Con International. I happened to be at my publisher's table when a kid came up and asked me when a particular cartoonist would be signing. I told him the time and said, "You'll recognize him right away. He looks like he draws.". Or even his appearance in Pierrot. A member of the James gang who shot their leader in the back in order to get a ...

Criterion Confessions: TOKYO STORY - #217

A survey of the Criterion Collection on DVD by Jamie S. Rich. Sunday, December 19, 2010. TOKYO STORY - #217. Yasujiro Ozu's 1953 movie Tokyo Story. Has always been a cinematic blind spot for me, despite it having a reputation for being perhaps the quintessential film in the Japanese director's canon. I would always hear others singing its praises, including quite often being told by people how they were moved emotionally by the family tale. This led me to expect Tokyo Story. Part Two of Tokyo Story.

Criterion Confessions: SILENT NARUSE - ECLIPSE SERIES 26
http://www.criterionconfessions.com/2011/04/silent-naruse-eclipse-series-26.html
A survey of the Criterion Collection on DVD by Jamie S. Rich. Friday, April 1, 2011. SILENT NARUSE - ECLIPSE SERIES 26. It's sad to read in the liner notes for the new Eclipse set, Silent Naruse. Thus, Mikio Naruse is a director that more of us probably know by name rather than by his work. He was an artist whose specialty was what was termed the "woman's picture." Like Douglas Sirk. The 1931 short Flunky, Work Hard. Element, with events growing bittersweet and ironic. Within the next year, Naruse's tech...
