Remains of the Day. The time of reflection and the crumbs on the floor. Wednesday, August 19, 2015. Wildflower Wednesday Home Again. Back to Maine wildflowers this week.many, but not all, of which I captured along my driveway. The rabbit-foot clover ( Trifolium arvense,. Has already moved on to the fluffy seed-head stage, but was blooming all through late July. It's a sweet little plant, and prolific along the gravelly edges of roads and driveways, but easily overlooked. Queen Anne's Lace ( Daucus carota.
Remains of the Day: Weekend Things ~ Beach Day
http://remainsofday.blogspot.com/2015/08/weekend-things-beach-day.html
Remains of the Day. The time of reflection and the crumbs on the floor. Monday, August 3, 2015. Weekend Things Beach Day. Having been on vacation for half of July, we were way behind on our beach quota for the summer. With a minimum of resistance, I got the troops mustered and out the door. M, who spent most of the week going to concerts, and who is also a teenager and therefore perpetually in need of a nap, spent most of the day curled in a towel reading. I must be getting old.). Looks like a great day!

Remains of the Day. The time of reflection and the crumbs on the floor. Friday, July 31, 2015. Gear Review Sleeping Quilt. Before we headed out on our trip, I made myself a sleeping quilt. Oddly enough, there are no photos of me sleeping in my sleeping bag, so we'll just rerun this picture, shall we? I made it from a kit designed and sold by Ray Jardine. Lightweight backpacking guru. I made the 1-Person Alpine. Version in purple. I write a little bit about the making process here. I finally weighed it: j...
Remains of the Day: Vacation
http://remainsofday.blogspot.com/2015/07/vacation.html
Remains of the Day. The time of reflection and the crumbs on the floor. Monday, July 20, 2015. We just returned from a seventeen-day, 5,760-mile road trip to and around Colorado. I have about 800 photos to sort through and edit. I think I'll dole them out slowly here over the next couple of weeks- I'm sure they're much more interesting than anything that will go on in my real life during that time, and that way I can relive the trip vicariously through my own photos. July 20, 2015 at 5:30 PM. Explaining ...
Remains of the Day: Nature Journaling ~ Colorado Travel Journal

Remains of the Day. The time of reflection and the crumbs on the floor. Thursday, August 13, 2015. Nature Journaling Colorado Travel Journal. Emboldened by my Ireland travel journal. On our way out, I kept track of the states we traveled through, our travel time, mileage, rest stops, gas consumption, and tolls- data we can use for planning future road trips. I'm terrible at landscape drawing, but I keep trying anyway. I like sketching flowers best, but only managed two. This is a fireweed. In the back of...
Remains of the Day: Rocky Mountain National Park
http://remainsofday.blogspot.com/2015/08/rocky-mountain-national-park.html
Remains of the Day. The time of reflection and the crumbs on the floor. Tuesday, August 11, 2015. Rocky Mountain National Park. Our last stop before heading back to Denver to regroup and return home was Rocky Mountain National Park. It's the park closest to Denver, so it's the park we've visited the most, but each time we go, there's always something new. My parents live only an hour or so from the west entrance, the quiet side of the park. The farther we hiked, the more we left the crowds behind and soo...
Remains of the Day: Black Canyon of the Gunnison

Remains of the Day. The time of reflection and the crumbs on the floor. Tuesday, August 4, 2015. Black Canyon of the Gunnison. As we drove up from the dusty hills of Montrose, C asked, "So is there like something here worth seeing? Oh, yes there is. A canyon cut 2,772 feet deep through sheer walls of rock. We hiked along a beautiful canyon rim trail that started right from our campground, which was a nice change- most National Parks locate their campgrounds well away from the attractions, for good reason.

Remains of the Day. The time of reflection and the crumbs on the floor. Thursday, August 1, 2013. Nature Journaling: A Travel Journal. One of the things I was determined to do on my Ireland trip was to keep a journal every day. I helped myself out by sketching in a little map of the first day's travels ahead of time. I had a small, but still 80-page journal. This three-faced stone head I sketched from a postcard I bought for my dad at the National Archaeology Museum). Also, I never did learn how to water...

Remains of the Day. The time of reflection and the crumbs on the floor. Wednesday, April 22, 2015. April Knit #2 Fingerless Mitts. I finished my second April knit last weekend: a pair of fun, stripey fingerless mitts. I started these way back in February. Tension. When will I ever get it right? Nevertheless, they are nice and soft and a fun length (though I'm not sure what to wear them with.maybe I need a 3/4 length sleeve jacket) and I adore the colors and the varying stripes. Tuesday, August 11, 2015. Mixing Art Syles on Your Walls. I was picking tomatoes in the garden a few days ago and almost missed my garden visitor. The turtle was eating the tomatoes on the branches that had fallen out of the tomato cages. I was quite impressed with the turtle's patience and perseverance. Now you may be wondering what this has to do with art displays? Sometimes we just don't think it will work and we don't even try. Ginny Lassiter on mixing art styles. Thanks for the helpful blog, Ginny!
