Stories from Singapore

Wednesday, November 17, 2010. There's a horrible commercial that gets played a lot here encouraging tourism in Malaysia. It has a bunch of shots of jungles and plates of food, and then for some reason a random white lady doing yoga on a beach. And there's a song in the background with the tagline "Malaaaaaysia.truly Aaaaaaasia! But eventually we got on a boat, and about an hour later we arrived in Pengerang, which is a small post in the southeast state of Johor. I fell asleep on Mike during the ride back...

Stories from Singapore: July 2010

http://www.storiesfromsingapore.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html

Monday, July 26, 2010. We finally got to Bras Basah, and I found four books I wanted to get, but only got two this time because they were getting kind of heavy. I hid the other ones, so hopefully when I go back no one will have pilfered them. Mike decided to get watercolors instead of paint, so the garbage board gets to stay in our spare room a little longer. Goody. Sunday we went to get brunch, Singapore style: dumplings! Friday, July 16, 2010. Monday, July 12, 2010. Follows the adventures of Ichigo Kur...

Stories from Singapore: Night Safari: When Nature Calls

http://www.storiesfromsingapore.blogspot.com/2010/08/night-safari-when-nature-calls.html

Sunday, August 15, 2010. Night Safari: When Nature Calls. Thursday night we decided to check out the Night Safari we've been hearing so much about. They have a lot of posters up for it around town, and basically it's the zoo, but at night! It turns out it's a really big tourist attraction, because we saw more white people standing in line than we have anywhere else in Singapore. It was like being in a Gap. It ended up being a lot of fun, even if it was a bit touristy and overpriced. Totally worth it ...

Stories from Singapore: Hazy Daze

http://www.storiesfromsingapore.blogspot.com/2010/10/hazy-daze.html

Sunday, October 24, 2010. Seriously, that has to be the most non-threatening warning I've ever heard in my life. Lovely view, isn't it? My body keeps expecting a change of seasons, and I constantly think it's still July. Alright, friends, I promise to be more diligent in the future with regards to my blog. Happy Halloween! Little did I know... | destination: anywhere

http://klberquist.blogspot.com/2012/02/little-did-i-know.html

Saturday, February 4, 2012. Little did I know. Up until now, I've posted mainly about travel related topics or things we've done in Fresno or something new I've tried (like my unfinished 30 x 30 list! But these past five weeks have taken me on a different kind of journey, a destination I've never seen the likes of nor could have fully imagined without having traveled it on my own. This journey began in the wee hours of the morning on December 30 when I first gazed at the sweet face of my son. For the fir...

Tuesday, October 26, 2010. Ending on a good note. Ready for a night out on the town! My birthday week concluded Saturday with a wonderful evening spent at Campagnia. And the Fresno Philharmonic. Jeremy and I were smokin’ hot; Jeremy in his dapper suit, and I in my sexy little dress and heels that absolutely kill my feet! After dinner we headed downtown to the William Saroyan Theatre. This particular performance featured guest pianist, Orli Shaham. Playing Frederic Chopin’s. Posted by Kristin Berquist.

Zoo Lights runs each weekend through the month of December and was our alternative this year to the over-crowded Christmas Tree Lane. Complete with free hot chocolate and cookies, it was a fun way to support a local attraction and do something Christmasy! Posted by Kristin Berquist. Tuesday, November 9, 2010. Monday, July 18, 2011. Project Roasting, accomplished! I've long held this crazy fear of roasting a whole chicken. I know to all those seasoned cooks out there, roasting a chicken is probably a standard part of Cooking 101, but to me it was a new culinary experience. I was intimidated by the entire process, from pulling the disgusting gizzard gunk out of the raw bird to ensuring that the meat was cooked all the way through without drying it out. http://klberquist.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html

Thursday, March 24, 2011. Jeremy and I returned earlier this week from a three-day trip to Seattle, WA. Aside from frequent layovers in SeaTac airport when flying home to Canada, neither of us ever spent time exploring the city. It always seemed like it would be a perfect weekend getaway. Indeed it was. At 520’ above the city, the Seattle Space Needle. And were thankful for the miraculous lack of rain that weekend. The Experience Music Sound l Science Fiction Museum. Exhibit. Wednesday, October 12, 2011. Turning 30: It's not so bad after all! Well, the big 3-0 has come and gone and left me feeling.pretty much the same as I did on October 17! In fact, it was a splendid birthday; a day full of kind wishes, thoughtful presents, and expressions of love. And the celebrations will continue with a dinner date tonight as well as a Mad Men cocktail party Jeremy is throwing me at the end of the month! I'd say that turning 30 was a complete success! 2 eat breakfast on the beach. 23 leav...

http://klberquist.blogspot.com/2012/02/basquing-in-fun-dining-experience.html

Wednesday, February 29, 2012. Basquing in a fun dining experience. On the corner of F Street and Mariposa Street sits the Basque Hotel. A single swinging door beckons patrons in to a dark, old bar area with the main dining area to the right through another set of swing doors. I honestly don't think this establishment is used as hotel anymore, but the dining experience is definitely a unique one! We even received the main course! Posted by Kristin Berquist. Dusty Buns | destination: anywhere

Wednesday, October 12, 2011. The sun was setting, the line was long, the patrons were hungry and the Dusty Buns Bistro. Was busy filling orders. Every Thursday the popular food truck can be found in front of Cafe Corazon on Wishon Avenue in the Tower District. On this particular Thursday evening, Angelica, Michelle and I met up to taste the gourmet sandwiches made with local, organic ingredients on fresh, homemade Dusty Buns. Posted by Kristin Berquist. My experience as an assistant teacher on the JET Program in Shimane Prefecture, Japan. Tuesday, January 8, 2013. Whoo hoo, its winter break! Two and a half weeks of freedom… sort of. The students are on break so I don’t have to school, but I still have to go to the Board of Education office every day.
