Notes From A Distant Land. Travel, Photography and Life. The Sasaks of Lombok. Asymp; 2 Comments. Anyway, most of the people you will encounter are Sasaks, and they have a very strong cultural identity that has stood strong over time. On a very lucky day when I was visiting some temples towards the city centre of Mataram, I came across this newly married couple all decked out in their traditional wedding costumes:. Why do we travel? Just to get away from the drudgery of our daily lives? Next post →.

Notes From A Distant Land. Travel, Photography and Life. The smiles of children from all over the world. Asymp; 3 Comments. I want to do a happy post today, so I thought of doing one where I wove some stories about the photos of children I’ve taken which feature them smiling. Charming French girl I met with her parents in the Imperial Palace. Anyway,...

Notes From A Distant Land. Travel, Photography and Life. Asymp; Leave a comment. Lombok, Indonesia has long been known as the island on the other side of Bali. Not any more, I think. Bali is getting more crowded than ever, losing its charm and far far too touristy. Lombok still retains an old world charm on most of its terrain, except maybe for the most touristy part Sengiggi, incidentally the closest part to Bali! Selong Belanak beach, South Lombok. She wasn’t doing a thing that I could see, except standing there, leaning on the balcony railing, holding the universe together. The Great November Detox – FOILED. November 8, 2013. You win, universe. I feel like any time I embark on a health kick, I get really sick. For example, this summer I resolved to swim 4 days a week. Three days later I was diagnosed with pneumonia. 2 thoughts on “ The Great November Detox – FOILED. November 8, 2013 at 1:12 pm. November 8, 2013 at 4:38 pm. Enter your comment here.

Notes From A Distant Land. Travel, Photography and Life. I’m a teacher by day and I fight crime at night. No, seriously…. Well, okay, I teach all year around. When I have a vacation period, I usually go overseas to teach: so far, to name a few, I have taught in Nepal, Cambodia, Phillipines, Thailand and on a Native American reservation in the United States, where I also did my graduate degree in English. The USA, that is…not the reservation! Pleased to meet you: my name is Sakhar 🙂. Wow – you̵...

Notes From A Distant Land. Travel, Photography and Life. Asymp; Leave a comment. In the foreground is Bangrak Firestation, an old somewhat dilapidated building still in use as the area firestation, where the families of the firefighters stay. While its state may be lamented, it has plenty of character and is architecturally unique although inside it leaves much to be desired especially as a living environment. The only thing black and white about such issues is this photograph itself 🙂. Next post →.
