King Solomon’s Mines | Out of Cake
https://outofcake.wordpress.com/2013/01/02/king-solomons-mines
We'll just keep on trying, till we run out of cake…. King Solomon’s Mines. Posted by Mary C. Titor. Asymp; 14 Comments. I’ve never actually seen the drama about mining on Eve-O forums stop. It waxes and wanes, but it’s been looping since before I signed up, and will, apparently, continue for the foreseeable future, with the exact same arguments on both sides and very, very little new ideas being added. How do others do it? I didn’t ask Why are mining mechanics like that? In my post about design intent.

The Nosy Gamer: Raffles And RMT
http://nosygamer.blogspot.com/2013/10/raffles-and-rmt.html
Monday, October 21, 2013. I really wanted to avoid the entire SOMER Blink controversy. So apart from a few links to the writings of others I've pretty much stayed away from the subject. Until now. DNSBlack, the leader of Dirt Nap Squad, came up with a post on the EVE Online forums claiming he came up with a method to conduct real money transfers. Without violating the Eve Online End Users License Agreement. EULA) and Terms of Service. Here's the opening post of the thread. I am doing this to re-capture s...

Jester's Trek: COTW: The sandbox
http://jestertrek.blogspot.com/2014/05/cotw-sandbox.html
Jester's ramblings about EVE Online, MMOs, gaming, geek philosophy, and - very occasionally - life. Welcome to Jester's Trek. I'm your host, Jester. I've been an EVE Online player for about six years. One of my four mains is Ripard Teg, pictured at left. Sadly, I've succumbed to "bittervet" disease, but I'm wandering the New Eden landscape (and from time to time, the MMO landscape) in search of a cure. You can follow along, if you want. Thursday, May 29, 2014. Jester said. (1). The peace dec IS PvP!

Plan 9 for Outer Space | Out of Cake

We'll just keep on trying, till we run out of cake…. Plan 9 for Outer Space. Posted by Mary C. Titor. Asymp; 23 Comments. This one is apparently my longest post so far, and in fact, consists almost entirely of the point, rather than getting to it. Usual disclaimer applies. In the previous post. I doubt it myself, but then, I doubt everything.). One thing remains an obvious fact: The population distribution, and the associated risks of high, low and null sec. The Rectification of Names. It gives the appea...

Plan 9.5 for Outer Space | Out of Cake
https://outofcake.wordpress.com/2013/02/15/plan-9-5-for-outer-space
We'll just keep on trying, till we run out of cake…. Plan 9.5 for Outer Space. Posted by Mary C. Titor. Asymp; 9 Comments. In the previous post. Well, this blog has always been about thinking, so an intellectual exercise is par for the course. I’ve had some new clever ideas since, first few on that front in quite a while. This post is by necessity sort of a mishmash of them. Killing a granny over 20 kopecks! Well, five of those make a rouble! Or not, assuming that if no preventive measures occurred, the ...

Delta V | Out of Cake
https://outofcake.wordpress.com/2013/05/05/delta-v
We'll just keep on trying, till we run out of cake…. Posted by Mary C. Titor. Asymp; 6 Comments. Delta V by itself. I’ve spent the last week playing lots and lots of Kerbal Space Program. Where, once the player gets past the engineering difficulties by binding their rockets with more and more silly string, they get intimately acquainted with the business end of Tsiolkovsky’s rocket equation. And in particular, the concept of delta-v. Out Of Place Civilization. In a similar sense. It’s perceptio...The Sov...

Stereotypes | Out of Cake

We'll just keep on trying, till we run out of cake…. Posted by Mary C. Titor. Asymp; 30 Comments. Never attribute to malice what can be adequately explained by stupidity. Is, actually, merely a special case of a far more general rule which I wish was more widely acknowledged. I find that general rule immensely useful for just about any kind of analysis, from scientific to daily life: Far more things in this world are. X, rather than. Kicked at it from different angles. And in general danced all around it.

We'll just keep on trying, till we run out of cake…. Posted by Mary C. Titor. Asymp; 6 Comments. I’ll try to expound on that today, and I’ll try to be brief. A few words about history. 8216;Brief’ is very, very relative. I actually kept writing and scrapping huge passages of text, running off into long streams of things I should mention. But there is a time and place for it, and that time and place is past. The basic structure of many early imitations was very close to Dungeons and Dragons, repeating the...
