I thought I would blog about this while things were still fresh in my mind. I enjoy going to the Festival of Quilts each year as I feel that it celebrates the diversity of quilting. From traditional to modern, very small to very large, single person to a group of people, there is something there for everyone. It is a big international show, being close to Birmingham Airport and other transport links. There were the miniatures, such amazing work in small scale. I also thought this group quilt was quite cl...

Sue W Sews: August 2015

http://suewilduk.blogspot.com/2015_08_01_archive.html

Farmer's Wife 1930's Sampler. Not much has been happening sewing wise other than progress on a mini quilt swap making. I can't share much here (a bit hush hush until next month) but a can show a sneaky peek which I put on Facebook earlier this week. Talking of having a go at things, someone on the UK Quilters Facebook page suggested some 1930s prints to go with the Farmer's Wife 1930's blocks sew along coming up next month, so I've gone and ordered a bundle. Something to look forward to. There were some ...

Farmer's Wife 1930's Sampler. Where Do I Begin? I also bought a knitting pattern book. Yep, it's Christmassy, but it will take me a while to knit, so starting early! But I have also been sewing. Now the evenings are lighter I don't need so much artificial light, so I have been hand quilting a couple of Dolly Dress Up blocks that seemed to have been hanging around for ages. I've still got to get more of the water erasable pen removed in spite of spraying copious amounts of water the other morning. Meanwhi...

Farmer's Wife 1930's Sampler. When I went to Gillian Travis workshop at the end of May I purchased an Indian Lady kit. It comes with a printed panel, some fabric for hair, skin and the pot she is carrying, some Bondaweb, baking parchment an block stamp and instructions. Today's weather was awful as its been raining most of the day so just right for a having a go at making this panel. This is the printed panel, above, before putting the applique on top. Sew what have I been up to? The orange/yellow one fo...

Sue W Sews: On Holiday - Part 2

http://suewilduk.blogspot.com/2015/08/on-holiday-part-2.html

Farmer's Wife 1930's Sampler. On Holiday - Part 2. After David's diesel train driving experience on the Monday we visited the engine house along the line of the Severn Valley Railway. An interesting mix of engines, plus various artefacts too. For anyone who remembers Thomas the Tank Engine, this is Gordon. I liked these London Underground signs and posters. On Wednesday we headed to Birmingham, which was where we stayed in readiness for going to Festival of Quilts on Thursday and Friday. Quite a lot were...

Sue W Sews: On holiday

http://suewilduk.blogspot.com/2015/08/on-holiday.html

Farmer's Wife 1930's Sampler. Some This week David and I are away in the West Midlands doing a bit of exploring and heading to Birmingham for the Festival of Quilts on Thursday and Friday. So with me is some holiday sewing and knitting. And some reading too, currently reading The Poppy Factory by Liz Trenow. David had a diesel driving experience at Severn Valley Railway, which he really looked forward to. And today we are going to Birmingham City centre to see the Jewellery Quarter. Come and say hello!
