Thoughts from the land of sunflowers. Update: Everyone is a winner. May 9, 2016. After cleaning his room, I found this pile of medals outside my 12 year old’s room. 8220;What are these doing here? 8221; I asked him. 8220;I don’t want them anymore,” he replied. 8220;You don’t want. 8220;There’s too many…”. This is exactly what I was talking about in this post. By awarding him a medal for “participating,” the medals mean nothing. Some of these medals. Because that’s what. Kids learning to fail. This was or...

One Kansas Family: Forget Snow Day -- It's a Wind Day.
http://dyerlife.blogspot.com/2015/04/forget-snow-day-its-wind-day.html
Life in the land of sunflowers. Saturday, April 4, 2015. Forget Snow Day - It's a Wind Day. A storm through Wichita early Thursday morning. When I say "blew," I'm talking about 90 mile per hour winds that uprooted trees, bent street signs, downed power lines and destroyed airplane hangers. This wind knocked out power for more than 40,000 residents and closed schools and businesses. Maize and Wichita closed school because several building didn't have power. So instead of a snow day, it was a wind day.
One Kansas Family: Half a Year After the Dog
http://dyerlife.blogspot.com/2015/03/half-year-after-dog.html
Life in the land of sunflowers. Tuesday, March 3, 2015. Half a Year After the Dog. It's Ali's seven month anniversary of us adopting her! In celebration, here are random photos we have taken since we got her. Hanging out on the deck. Our neighbor's dog is NOT out, obviously. She was so pitiful when we made her wear the "no bark" thing to obedience training. Watches for the bus every day in Zach's room. The clothes WERE clean. This is one of my favorite pictures. With all the boys. At Oak Park with Adam.

Life in the land of sunflowers. Sunday, May 10, 2015. Adam had a game at 1:30 pm. Then dinner at Newport Grill with Oma and Papa.sounds familiar.I think we did the same thing last year. The boys made me a box! They had been secretive all week and going to Lowe's and getting tools and paint so I wasn't quite sure what was going on. I knew the tools and paint were not for Scott. Adam cut the wood and he and Zach put the box together. They both painted it.in their favorite colors. View my complete profile.

Life in the land of sunflowers. Tuesday, June 2, 2015. Coronado Heights, Kansas. It was an unexpected day trip. Scott and Zach were supposed to travel to Kansas City for a soccer tournament, but it was cancelled because the fields were underwater from all the rain we've had the past few days. We discovered there wasn't much going on in Moundridge on a Sunday morning and that McPherson had an airport. The hour and half drive was mostly this:. We couldn't eat inside because most eating establishments frown...

Life in the land of sunflowers. Monday, March 23, 2015. Leaving. First stop: Drop Ali off to be boarded. After six years of driving past it, we finally stopped at the Colorado border sign. Spent the night in Denver this year. Here's a photo of two kids born in the 2000s trying to work a 1990s cordless phone. I had to step in with my expert knowledge of "ancient technology.". The high temperature was in the 60s this year. Instead of "are you warm enough? It was "are you cool enough? New terrain parks offe...
One Kansas Family: Ski Trip 2013
http://dyerlife.blogspot.com/2013/03/ski-trip-2013.html
Life in the land of sunflowers. Wednesday, March 27, 2013. 2013 marks our fourth year of skiing. This year our friends Missy and Phil, and their kids Emily, Hannah and Caden, were there the same time we were. We were able to ski with them a couple of days. After four years at Beaver Creek, we now know our favorite runs. We did try a black this year, Centennial, although we aren't really sure why it was a black, except for the fact that is was really steep with a quick turn at the bottom. During this time...
One Kansas Family: March 2014
http://dyerlife.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html
Life in the land of sunflowers. Friday, March 21, 2014. Year five of our annual ski trip. Here is the first year we went skiing. The first two days were a little troublesome with cold temperatures, snow and overcast skies, plus one wrecked ski and too-small boots. The very first run of the day, Zach fell and somehow the "brake" (the little knob thingy that goes down when your ski comes off that prevents it from sliding all the way down the hill) got stuck down.so Zach couldn't ski on that foot. Celebrati...

The Silver Lining
Wednesday, November 2, 2011. You have probably heard it before, but I'll share it because it is a good reminder for all of us:. This has worked, but I will now say: "Do It Anyway"! In fact, I ordered this item and it will find it's place in our house because it motivates and challenges me to be more like Jesus.
