Sussex Nature Notes: January 2015

http://sussexnaturenotes.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html

Seasonal notes and observations on the flora and fauna in and around Sussex - and occasionally further afield. Plus news and updates on volunteering activities. Saturday, January 24, 2015. RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch 2015. Another year of counting birds in the garden for the Big Garden Birdwatch. Usually birds immediately head for the bushes and keep a low profile on this particular weekend - they definitely know when it's happening! But this year it wasn't too bad and I actually had a good count. David ha...

The Edible Garden: Freshly picked broccoli

http://theediblegarden.blogspot.com/2013/04/freshly-picked-broccoli.html

Creating a productive vegetable garden in a small space. Wednesday, 24 April 2013. The broccoli I planted last year has been growing steadily since the Autumn and survived the cold and snow (and cats), earlier this year. Picked this fresh for lunch with a fishcake - simply steamed - tasted delicious and great to be picking fresh veg from the garden at this time of year. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). The Edible Garden: September 2012

http://theediblegarden.blogspot.com/2012_09_01_archive.html

Creating a productive vegetable garden in a small space. Saturday, 15 September 2012. Planted up some mixed chard in both the square garden and my salad box. As not much has been growing this year due to the bad weather and large numbers of snails perhaps this will survive! I seem to be more successful at growing butterfly food as the Large and Small Whites have taken a liking to my purple sprouting broccoli that I planted earlier this year. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). The Edible Garden: Sowing seeds for 2013

http://theediblegarden.blogspot.com/2013/04/sowing-seeds-for-2013.html

Creating a productive vegetable garden in a small space. Saturday, 27 April 2013. Sowing seeds for 2013. I don't often sow seeds - both because in my small garden I don't need that many plants and also because I haven't had much success in the past. However after this year's Seedy Sunday. I have plenty of seed to play with. So - I've planted up:. And old favourite, although I'm not sure what variety as they weren't labelled. They were lovely before when I've grown them. One of James Wong's.

The Edible Garden: More seed planting

http://theediblegarden.blogspot.com/2013/05/more-seed-planting.html

Creating a productive vegetable garden in a small space. Monday, 20 May 2013. Mainly flower seeds as there are lots of different varieties I discovered when sorting through my seed store - I might as well use them up and have a bit of colour this Summer. Runners and french beans have germinated - nearly all of them but still a few to emerge or not - they were new seed. Only a couple of tomato seedlings have come up. Hoping more will appear as the weather warms up (? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Creating a productive vegetable garden in a small space. Friday, 27 September 2013. Winter veg - purple sprouting broccoli. Planted up the winter veg - purple sprouting broccoli. The Edible Garden: June 2013

http://theediblegarden.blogspot.com/2013_06_01_archive.html

Creating a productive vegetable garden in a small space. Tuesday, 18 June 2013. The runner beans are growing nicely and not yet munched by slugs and snails. Tomatoes also settling in nicely - ranging in size from beef to cherry. And finally, the square bed with courgettes and mangetout plus netting and prunings from the rose to deter cats. Saturday, 1 June 2013. Pleased to see that most of the bean seedlings have come up - runner beans, french beans and now the mangetout, which came up really quickly.

The Edible Garden: April 2012

http://theediblegarden.blogspot.com/2012_04_01_archive.html

Creating a productive vegetable garden in a small space. Friday, 6 April 2012. It's finally getting ready to harvest and my most successful cropping so far. I think my previous attempt didn't even produce this much. Only a few plants in a small space but something useful to grow over the winter. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile. The Edible Garden: June 2011

http://theediblegarden.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html

Creating a productive vegetable garden in a small space. Monday, 27 June 2011. Planted up a couple of rows of mangetout in the new raised bed. They'll be more easily accessible and don't grow as tall as the runner beans, so may be easier to reach and harvest - as and when they get going - if the slugs and pigeons don't get them first! Sunday, 19 June 2011. A New Raised Bed. Chilli peppers are planted up in the pots to the left. Friday, 10 June 2011. Planting Upward and Onwards. Tomato plants - two Money ...

The Edible Garden: August 2011

http://theediblegarden.blogspot.com/2011_08_01_archive.html

Creating a productive vegetable garden in a small space. Sunday, 14 August 2011. My veg containers this year - looking lush, in full bloom and growing well. Courgettes. Are doing really well in their slightly larger containers this year. I think the liberal application of well rotted manure has certain helped and plentiful watering. Note the plastic water bottle with the bottom cut off and pushed in to the soil. This helps the water get directly to the roots. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Sunday, 11 December 2011. A couple of hours at the reservoir before shooting off to visit Dad was amazing! I joined Ian, Andrew and Chris on the dam wall. The Whitcombs were on fire and found endless Caspo's in the large mix of gulls. I saw 5 and they were seeing a lot more than I managed to get on! Wednesday, 7 December 2011.
