Suzanna Scott: A Lifeline

http://suzannascott.blogspot.com/2016/09/a-lifeline.html

Art Life. Process. Piffle. September 13, 2016. A year and a half ago, soon after I turned 40, I gifted myself a sabbatical to explore a new direction in my work. One of the first projects I tackled was to fabricate a sculpture out of an antique quilt top that I'd been holding onto for years with this purpose in mind. The slow evolution of this unfinished quilt has been a learning process for me with many stops and starts. Posted by Suzanna Scott. September 13, 2016. First, I created a simple drop pattern...

Sushipot: Crewelwork Sampler

http://sushipot.blogspot.com/2012/01/crewelwork-sampler.html

January 6, 2012. Gift, presented by Patrick, was this unfinished sampler of different crewelwork stitches. Does he know me well or what? Eventually we'll have it framed up, needle and all- the growing pile of "art to be framed one day" is another story. For now, I've rearranged the inspiration boards. In my studio and have hung it front and center. It's a mesmerizing muse and color palette of stitchery for the new year. Posted by Suzanna Scott. January 6, 2012 at 1:12 PM. This is very cool!

Sushipot: Aunt Helen's Obsession

http://sushipot.blogspot.com/2014/06/aunt-helens-obsession.html

June 23, 2014. A few months ago I made an impulse purchase on Etsy and have been meaning to share it with you ever since it arrived. Lucky for me I came across this potpourri of old buttons lovingly stitched to a bright yellow cloth and cardboard backing. Debra of Saffron Colored Pony. Says the "buttons in this collection called Aunt Helen's obsession. Sewing buttons onto card stock, mostly in a pleasing manner. They come to you on their original cardboard backing that Aunt Helen culled.".

Sushipot: June 2015

http://sushipot.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html

June 1, 2015. Four months of radio silence is enough for me- it was snowing when I signed off and here we are on the cusp of summer! My on-line life has been relegated primarily to Instagram. Where I've been sharing bits of process from the studio. I've had a lovely break though I dare say it is no longer a sabbatical per se but a new direction entirely. Two concrete decisions have been made. First, the doors of Sushipot. Have closed for good. Second, I miss blogging so here I am! Posted by Suzanna Scott.

Sushipot: January 2015

http://sushipot.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html

January 26, 2015. Doll House no 407. Doll House no 407. With triplets), mixed media assemblage. I came across another book on midwifery last month dating to the mid 1800's. The engravings were sparse but few it held are treasures indeed. I do believe this is the first doll house in the series to feature triplets. I love how two have hair and the third is bald. Also, the dismembered legs gave me pause so I dutifully bestowed her with a new pair. Posted by Suzanna Scott. January 23, 2015. January 19, 2015.

Sushipot: Patchwork Book Quilt

http://sushipot.blogspot.com/2015/01/patchwork-book-quilt.html

January 15, 2015. Mixed media collage quilt with old book covers. Old books that find their way into my studio are dissected and skinned. When the box labeled 'book skins' starts to fill up I piece together another patchwork quilt. Some of the skins are more brittle than others so I've found the best method is to glue them together first and then add the stitching. In the image below you can see the pre-gluestick composition of my latest quilt. Posted by Suzanna Scott. January 15, 2015 at 9:54 PM.
