Sweers Island Resort

The runway 12/30 is situated 500 m south of the Resort Buildings. Dimensions are 1100 m x 60 m. GPS co-ordinates are 17º 07.261' S, 139º 36.022' E. The surface is hard gravelly clay and is normally not affected by all but the heaviest rain. Avgas is available at Burketown and Normanton. No aviation fuel is stored on the island. Burketown has a 24-hour swipe-card facility. Normanton Refueller ph: 07 4745 1615, cash/cheque only. Callout fee after hours/weekends. Thanks Ahmad, for the cute round icons!

On arrival you will be given a comprehensive briefing on the boats, safety and the best fishing spots. If you have a few minutes to spare, we urge you to have a read of the SAFETY NOTES. Tide Information

There is only one High and one Low tide each day in the Gulf of Carpentaria, except for Neaps each fortnight, when we have Double Tides. The tidal variation can be up to 4 metres, with strong currents around headlands and over undersea channels. Strong Southeasterly Trade Winds in June-July can affect tide levels, sometimes resulting in high tide being half a metre lower than expected.
