Second Helpings: October 2010
http://anniesfoodjournal.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html
Saturday, October 23, 2010. This month's theme at Kulinarya Cooking Club is Suman. Traditionally, it is glutinous rice cooked in coconut cream, wrapped in either banana or coconut leaves, steamed and served with sugar on the side. (Check out the other blogs below for their delicious take on this popular Filipino snack.) My version is called Sumang Hubad. Or Naked Suman, cooked without the banana leaves, using mini-cake molds instead. Glazed with salted caramel topping, these little sumans. Each month we ...

When Adobo Met Feijoada. October 25, 2010. Suman na Kamoteng Kahoy (Cassava Steam Cake) for Kulinarya Cooking Club. The Kulinarya Cooking Club. I hope to work myself to that level but first, let's start with something that would be the easiest to start with. I didn't use glutinous rice either with my suman. Only four ingredients were used in this suman: grated cassava. Suman na Kamoteng Kahoy. 2 bags (1-lb each) frozen grated fresh cassava, thawed (about 4 cups). 1 cup granulated sugar. Was started by a ...

Musings of a Wannabe Gourmand. Nyonya Curry Laksa – International Noodles Incident Party. On June 20, 2010 · 10 Comments. Oh what I would give to be able to time travel back and cuff my younger self around the ear. As it sometimes so happens, it’s not till later on in your life that you realise how lucky you are. Perhaps (‘makan’ meaning ‘eat’ in Malay). Does it have a ring to it? With the International Incident Party. So without further adieu, my Nyonya Curry Laksa courtesy of Lily’s somewhat vagu...

When Adobo Met Feijoada: Polvoron for Kulinarya Cooking Club
http://whenadobometfeijoada.blogspot.com/2010/04/polvoron-for-kulinarya-cooking-club.html
When Adobo Met Feijoada. April 18, 2010. Polvoron for Kulinarya Cooking Club. This month, the Kulinarya Cooking Club presents Polvoron (Tagalog, Pulboron). The crumbly, creamy pastry, likened to shortbread, is beloved by all Filipinos. Philippines, a former colony of Spain, had adapted this shortbread and made it their own. The best thing about them, they are never baked! This recipe is very easy to make but it posed a challenge for me since you need a special tool to shape them and these molds. And went...
