http://agingmatters2010.blogspot.com/2011/04/targeted-victims-of-crime.html
Wednesday, April 6, 2011. Targeted Victims of Crime? Among the different types of police-reported violent crimes in 2007, common assault was the most prevalent offence committed against senior victims and non-senior victims. The rate of violent crime against older adults, however, remains 15 times lower than violence against the 15-24 age group (135 vs. 2,067 per 100,000). There were a total of 5,499 police reported violent incidents against seniors in 2007. Ogrodnik L. (2004/2005). I am just wondering i...

Aging Field Focus Blog. There was an error in this gadget. Friday, April 15, 2011. Indigenous views on Dementia and Memory Loss in Older Age. The study by Hulko et al, (2010) outlines a number of different view about dementia and memory loss as explained by Indigenous Elders from BC:. Memory loss was seen as a natural part of life by the broader community but was not necessarily welcomed by the Elders who were experiencing it for themselves. (p. 327). So what can we learn from this information? Some had ...

Aging Matters: One is the loneliest number…or is it?
http://agingmatters2010.blogspot.com/2011/04/one-is-loneliest-numberor-is-it.html
Thursday, April 14, 2011. One is the loneliest number…or is it? With women living longer than men, many women are single, widowed, or divorced. What sorts of living arrangements are common for these women? Is it like the Golden Girls. Not so according to research. Women are more likely to live alone, with a drastic change that over the last century, 12% of widows live by themselves versus the 70% in 1990 (Eshbaugh, 2008, p.125). So why such a rise? The author points to 3 possible explanations:. I found t...

Aging Matters: Sexuality
http://agingmatters2010.blogspot.com/2011/04/sexuality_04.html
Monday, April 4, 2011. I’ve chosen sexuality among elder because. I am curious about how elders deal with their sexuality especially among elderly women who have gone through. Menopause. From the place where I grew up if the woman hits menopause then it is the end of her sexual life. Those are just beliefs and I want to know if that is the case. This means that sexuality needs to be part of. They both have alcohol problems and spend most of the time together. I also talked with another woman and asked he...

Friday, April 15, 2011. Older adults are targets of major stereotypes. The first I wish to discuss is the idea that they are technologically illiterate. There is a perception that older adults are slow, or behind the times when it comes to technology such as computers and the internet, however this is not the case! In fact 40% of computer sales are being made by older adults (Malta, 2007). Gwen Sector Creative Living. Offers computer courses for older adults, as does. Why are they so popular? There are e...

Aging Matters: Difficulties getting around town:
http://agingmatters2010.blogspot.com/2011/04/difficulties-getting-around-town.html
Thursday, April 14, 2011. Difficulties getting around town:. I love to drive. I remember getting my drivers license and feeling a new found sense of independence. It’s silly, but when my car is at the mechanic’s I feel stuck, even if I have nowhere to really go, it’s the feeling of not being able to get up and go on a whim. Living in the suburbs means bus access is infrequent and the stop can be a 20 minute walk away. Not having adequate transportation can lead older adults to isolation (Nicholson, 2008).
