The Tar Heel Outdoorsman. Fly Fishing, Waterfowling, and Wandering the Old North State and Elsewhere. Friday, December 9, 2016. Thanks to graduate school applications, LSAT studying, other so-called "real world" commitments, and an interruption from Hurricane Matthew,. The fall hasn't yielded quite as much time in the woods or on the water as I would've liked. But I have fit in a few trips. Don't you worry. That's what hunting and fishing is all about anyway. A chance to get out there, wherever there.

The Tar Heel Outdoorsman. Fly Fishing, Waterfowling, and Wandering the Old North State and Elsewhere. Saturday, May 21, 2016. Back to the Basics; what do do when the boat ain't runnin'. Things start where they often do. The truck. Throw the kayak in there, since the skiff's in the shop, and stick the 8 weight through the sliding back window. Grab your flies and a water bottle. Paddle and a life jacket too. Good to go. It's hard to see sitting in the kayak, almost at water level, so you ease out, hoping y...

The Tar Heel Outdoorsman. Fly Fishing, Waterfowling, and Wandering the Old North State and Elsewhere. Monday, November 30, 2015. A Streetlight of a Moon. It was Thanksgiving morning, pre-sunrise, close to the Northeast Cape Fear, and my brother and I trudged through the flooded millet field, out to the duck blind. Dang that's a full moon… don't even need a flashlight," David said. Yeah… it's shining like a streetlight…". How many times you boys miss? We were asked, and we replied, "Well, miss? Later, the...

Wednesday, May 27, 2015. Not a sentimental person.I'm a fisherman.catch some and lose some. But wanted to say thanks for the support. The 29th marks my 1 year anniversary to blogging. 1st post, The beginning. Thanks for the support! Thursday, May 21, 2015. Salt in my life - Day 2. My plan was to head into the wind, just in case the forecast of 5 mph SE winds became 20 mph, like the previous day. At least, I would have the wind at my back.unlike the day before. I stood up and started polling around. D...
Looknfishy: September 2014
http://looknfishy.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html
Friday, September 26, 2014. Had a few hours today, Friday, so I decided to try the water trail access at Shallow Lake. It's about 30 additional minutes from my house and having never been I wasn't familiar with the area or specifically the fishing. But, the only way to learn is to get out and get paddling. The area is changing from Summer to Fall. Temps are lower, 65 this morning at the ramp, and leaves are beginning to change colors. Part of the water trail. Hut with a view. Looks like I have some more ...

Tuesday, June 30, 2015. Although, she quickly changed her mind when she got a good look at the business end of a big blue crab.maybe next year. I'm very excited that they love the water and all it has to offer. At the end of the day they were running the traps w/o any help. Pretty awesome! Saturday, June 27, 2015. Nomad Life - the life for me. Haven't stopped to count, but I think I've been home 4 days in June. Cool. Double on 1 rod.that's great fishing! Monday, June 22, 2015. AR tailwaters (part 4).

Wednesday, July 29, 2015. PSA - save the fish. As the water and air temps get stupid hot, don't forget to revive any fish you plan to release. It's something that should always be done.but especially important now. A popular technique is holding the tail and slowly moving the fish back and forth.in the water! Don't forget that part. You'd be surprised. When your victim is strong enough to swim away, on it's own.it will. Tuesday, July 28, 2015. Anything and everything, "driftless". Sunday, July 26, 2015.

Wednesday, January 28, 2015. So you begged and pleaded to your.mom, dad, special someone.whoever before Christmas. And it worked. You woke up way too early, ran down stairs and found that bright and shiny new kayak sitting under the tree in the back yard. You have a couple of buddies that convinced you to get it. But now it's January, it's cold, the waters cold, and your buddies are quitters (mostly) and waiting for Spring. What to do? Anybody want to go fish'n in Jan? BCKFC), Ozark Anglers. Now you're t...

Tuesday, April 28, 2015. Next stop who knows? I say "crazy-x", b/c the weather would look cool, nothing going on over here, all is good one minute. Then 2 hours later, it would get silly stupid, slashing your tires crazy. Each morning when I checked the forecast, it would be 80% thunderstorms all weekend with 20 mph winds (no go).and by noon, changed to 10 mph winds and 10% storms (GO! You win, I'll change my number and move to a new state. About 6:30 am I called the COE for the current generation, 4 uni...
Looknfishy: Great River Road Trip

Monday, August 10, 2015. Great River Road Trip. Checked the weather (hi 80's low 50's all week) and decided to drive north and follow the "Great River Road". We traveled 2200 miles trough 7 states (AR, MO, IL, IA, WI, KY, TN). As we were driving in, we passed a cool local spot with some RV's parked in the back and a few boats in the front lot. Looked perfect for us. I could smell some goodness in the air.found we're I'd be pulling up a chair for dinner. In Clarksville, MO. Of course, it's the perfect...

Looknfishy: August 2015
http://looknfishy.blogspot.com/2015_08_01_archive.html
Wednesday, August 26, 2015. Title pretty much describes why I like chasing grassers. They spook easily, pull like fright trains, and they sip bugs off the surface as softly as tout. On the fly, they make you work for every eat. Probably why I have so much fun chasing them. If you've ever sight fished reds in the marsh, this is very similar.minus the delicacy part of course. CPR - Put them back in the water. Found 2 rotting on the bank at the launch don't be that guy! To big to lift out of the water.

Thursday, November 27, 2014. We interrupt your Thanksgiving for a fishing report - Taneycomo bows! Spent the weekend plus a few days playing tourist in Branson, MO. In between Silver Dollar City, The Butterfly Palace, and numerous other family friendly activities I earned enough points and redeemed them for a few hours below TRD. Table Rock Dam. The Tar Heel Outdoorsman
The Tar Heel Outdoorsman. Fly Fishing, Waterfowling, and Wandering the Old North State and Elsewhere. Thursday, December 29, 2016. A Week for the Ducks, the second half. It's truly a land held in by water, these inner islands and peninsulas and lowlands of Northeastern North Carolina. Well, we got there, but a day early. That year, we stumbled upon the Bayboro House Hotel. Unfortunately Edwin had to head back to Raleigh, but I called up my brother to see if he could fill in the next morning, Friday, so h...
