The Hornet Project: An action in hand
http://thehornetproject.blogspot.com/2012/02/action-in-hand.html
Thursday, 16 February 2012. An action in hand. The NSW Firearms Registry managed to process my Permit To Acquire in record time and I received my PTA late last week; no action in sight and the official paperwork burning a hole in my pocket. The Greengrass Antique and Modern Arms Fair. Is on this weekend. What I should have done is grabbed the kids and headed over for a bit of a look-see as to what was on the tables. That was the plan. And firearmsales.com.au. Wait till the weekend or just lock in the BSA?

The Hornet Project: The Hornet Project begins...
http://thehornetproject.blogspot.com/2012/01/hornet-project-begins.html
Monday, 23 January 2012. The Hornet Project begins. And so it came to be that I purchased a Remington Model 700 VSSF chambered in .220 Swift and topped it with a Leupold VX-III 6.5-20x40mm. I shot it for a few months before fitting a Hart 2oz trigger; great bit of gear but it meant I no longer had a safety (nothing lost there! And rather annoyingly at first, there was no bolt stop! The Remington Model 700 VSSF .220 Swift with. Leupold VX-III 6.5-20 x 40mm;. For a long time now I've been considering addin...

Return to Nitro Express: I want a double rifle: part 1
http://returntonitroexpress.blogspot.com/2012/02/best-start-with-honest-truth-i-want.html
Tuesday, 7 February 2012. I want a double rifle: part 1. Best start with the honest truth: I want a double rifle. In 1884, Paul Vielle invented the first smokeless gunpowder suitable for rifles. Unlike blackpowder that it replaced, the resultant propellant known today as pyrocellulose. Produced negligible smoke when fired and was three times more powerful than black powder, generating much higher muzzle velocity in the same sized case. In the early 20. By the mid 20. Century, following the end of World W...

The Hornet Project: March 2012
http://thehornetproject.blogspot.com/2012_03_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 6 March 2012. So which cartridge for the The Hornet Project? So I've been doing a bit of research into what might be a suitable cartridge for The Hornet Project. Other than the need for a rimmed cartridge, there are not too many prerequisites. Of course, nothing "big" as I really don't want to get too close my .220 Swift. Best define the task before I take this any further. So we're calling it a small pest or "varmint". So low recoil for maximum visibility on target engagement would be a plus.

Hunting Africa's Big Game: Processing a bull giraffe
http://huntingafricasbiggame.blogspot.com/2012/10/processing-bull-giraffe.html
Thursday, 4 October 2012. Processing a bull giraffe. Thought I'd post a few images of the field processing of the giraffe bull. I shot him at 7:52am and we were working hard till close to 3:00pm to get him skinned and broken down. He fell in a pretty handy position with awkward but relatively good access for the vehicles but the skinning was a bit awkward at times. Enjoy this brief photo essay. The missus snapped this picture while I was watching the early stages of the skinning operation. These guys...

Hunting Africa's Big Game: A shot of a tsessebe
http://huntingafricasbiggame.blogspot.com/2013/01/a-shot-of-tsessebe.html
Monday, 21 January 2013. A shot of a tsessebe. Last Friday afternoon I was archiving (read: deleting) files that have accumulated on my office computer and I came across a very special photo I wanted to share. The fastest antelope on earth - have come back so well in southern Africa that they have been completely removed from the CITES appendices, a wonderful thing for both the game and hunters. While our PH Stephan rode up front with Fanwell - tracker and skinner. Tsessebe - Damaliscus lunatus. After a ...

Hunting Africa's Big Game: Hyenas in Addis Ababa
http://huntingafricasbiggame.blogspot.com/2013/01/hyenas-in-addis-ababa.html
Monday, 7 January 2013. Hyenas in Addis Ababa. I'm a huge fan of the hyena and think they are a wonderful animal. One of Africa's most successful predators, perfectly adapted to long pursuit hunting and total utilisation of their prey. They kill the old and sick grazers, helping to maintain the health of herding animals and clean up dead carcasses across Africa greatly benefiting the ecosystem. You can read Part I of my hyena hunting exploits by clicking the link below. The latest issue of African Indaba.
