Teaching and Other Matters

Teaching and Other Matters. Friday, September 4, 2015. The first four days of the 2015-16 school year have been completed. It has been a fairly nice start in my opinion. I am enjoying the beginning development of connections between myself and my students, and observing the interactions between the students as each classroom develops its own mini-culture. There are a few new things that I am implementing in my classes this year. One of them is to use Pear Deck. Friday, August 7, 2015. After considering h...

Teaching and Other Matters: Contributing

http://teachingandothermatters.blogspot.com/2014/12/contributing.html

Teaching and Other Matters. Monday, December 15, 2014. Twitter can be a pretty cool thing. Last evening, Dan Meyer, sent out a request to 7th and 8th grade math teachers for help regarding his PhD research. I have benefited from Dan's work so many times the past few years that I was happy to offer. Overall, they seemed happy to have been asked to take part in the research. It showed in their approach and answers to the question. It was nice for me to have been able to help Dan as well.

Teaching and Other Matters: January 2013

Teaching and Other Matters. Saturday, January 26, 2013. Also, I created an individual shared folder for each student and sent them an e-mail link for that folder on Monday. It is my plan that this folder will be the location where they will put their completed work. A couple of students have already mastered the process but it seems that for the vast majority of my students, they are content to continue to access the assignments from our class web site. Tuesday, January 1, 2013. New Year's Day 2013.

Teaching and Other Matters: Lagging

http://teachingandothermatters.blogspot.com/2015/08/lagging.html

Teaching and Other Matters. Friday, August 7, 2015. One of the best things about summer for a teacher is getting a chance to reflect upon the last year, (and years), of teaching and consider how to improve for the next year. There are a few things I plan to change for the upcoming year but the biggest and most fruitful change will be implementing the concept of lagging. In particular, he presents the concept of lagging homework. August 7, 2015 at 6:00 PM. August 7, 2015 at 6:16 PM. Thank you so much for ...

Teaching and Other Matters: Unaccustomed territory

http://teachingandothermatters.blogspot.com/2014/12/unaccustomed-territory.html

Teaching and Other Matters. Sunday, December 21, 2014. This post has little to do about teaching - and is associated more with the "other matters" part of the title for this blog. I attended the University of Albany for both undergraduate and graduate school for my training as a meteorologist. Back in those days, they were a strong Division III program which helped fuel my attachment to mid-major basketball. They have remained one of "my teams" as only college teams can be throughout.

Teaching and Other Matters: November 2012

http://teachingandothermatters.blogspot.com/2012_11_01_archive.html

Teaching and Other Matters. Sunday, November 18, 2012. Tough month for continuity. In some ways, November is my least favorite month to teach. With Halloween just having ended, Election Day, Veteran's Day, Parent Conference Day, and Thanksgiving break, the schedule becomes very fractured. At the same time, the mathematics becomes more challenging. This is not the best of combinations. Sunday, November 11, 2012. Smart Notebook Ipad app. I have written about the use of the Reflection app mirroring software.

Teaching and Loving It! An informal look at language teaching and learning by Ericka Collado. It is not About the Bicycle. Last year during the first summer session on campus of the doctoral program I am in, we were shown the video where the late Steve Jobs compares computers to bicycles.
