Teaching English Sucks in Korea

Teaching English Sucks in Korea. Thursday, February 4, 2010. Strange to think about, the largest numbers of people that come to Korea are English teachers. These government programs which are supposed to hire and, presumably, retain good teachers are failing miserable to do so. For those that have a very good time here in Korea, though rare, great for them. If only everyone could be so lucky. They will tell others of their experiences one way or another. They like to pretend they have power and use the w...

Teaching English Sucks in Korea: 15. Extra Duties

http://teachingenglishsucksinkorea.blogspot.com/2010/02/15-extra-duties.html

Teaching English Sucks in Korea. Wednesday, February 3, 2010. In the beginning you will be easier to manipulate. Your co-teachers may ask you to do certain things and you’ll probably say yes; they’re relying on the fact that you don’t know your contract that well, and don’t want to start off on the wrong foot in your job or co-worker relationships. Ms Gang may ask you to do a co-teaching competition, this is a horrendous idea. Going home is much more valuable than staying after school for that time period.

Teaching English Sucks in Korea: 25. Taken Classes

http://teachingenglishsucksinkorea.blogspot.com/2010/02/25-taken-classes.html

Teaching English Sucks in Korea. Thursday, February 4, 2010. Often, certain teachers will take classes away from you, because they want to focus teaching something else that they think is more important, sometimes this makes sense and sometimes it doesn’t. Some teaches will take students and some won’t even within the same level. This I find funny, at one of the arguments I had with another teacher, I showed a movie to some 2. I don’t see why you would ever say no. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Teaching English Sucks in Korea: 30. Everything Else

http://teachingenglishsucksinkorea.blogspot.com/2010/02/30-everything-else.html

Teaching English Sucks in Korea. Thursday, February 4, 2010. Often, you’ll have to wonder if doing something is okay… just do it until they tell you that it’s not. They’re not confrontational and it’ll take them a long time to actually build up the courage to tell you otherwise. Also, their logic isn’t very sound, so feel free to poke holes in it at will… I found it quite entertaining. This school is spending money left and right on everything but education. New windows, new parking. I have seen them tea...

Teaching English Sucks in Korea: 16. Various Other Faculty

http://teachingenglishsucksinkorea.blogspot.com/2010/02/16-various-other-faculty.html

Teaching English Sucks in Korea. Thursday, February 4, 2010. 16 Various Other Faculty. A few members of the faculty are nice and you will run into them, but most are cold and anti-social. You’ll tend to get a lot of attention at first from everyone and then ignored from then on. As it was suggested, don’t tell them anything they can gossip about you, because they will, you are the rumor of the day, any day. The copier/handy man and sidekick are slightly annoying. I pretend not to understand him as well.

I hate teaching in korea: December 2009

http://ihateteachinginkorea.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html

I hate teaching in korea. DO NOT come to South Korea. Monday, December 28, 2009. Must Read] A Native English Teacher’s Declaration. I believe that the Korean education system is being deliberately abused by those who have the power to fix it. But who am I to say such things. What about the native English teacher, what happens to them in this world of deceit? Who are we, to speak our minds to the face of failure? The discontented voices of thousands of native English teachers are meaningless to the Korean...

http://ihateteachinginkorea.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html

I hate teaching in korea. DO NOT come to South Korea. Monday, February 8, 2010. Native English teachers are and will always be disposable to EPIK, GEPIK, SMOE, and any other teaching program in Korea. Too much power is in the wrong hands. Too little is there to support native English teachers. Too much of the native English teaching contract is designed to quickly dispose of and replace teachers. Do not go to Korea to teach English, no matter how much money they dangle in front of you. They haven't p...

I hate teaching in korea: [Video] Typical Co-teaching

http://ihateteachinginkorea.blogspot.com/2010/02/video-typical-co-teaching.html

I hate teaching in korea. DO NOT come to South Korea. Thursday, February 4, 2010. So, you want to teach in Korea? These are some very typical videos of how Korean co-teachers "work together" with native English teachers. Their slogan should be "Teach in Korea: Get Screwed.". I highly recommend everyone video tape their co-teachers in action (in-action or lack thereof). Maybe a lot of the Korean English teachers would actually do what they're supposed to do. Korean English Teacher 1. It is a clear example...

http://ihateteachinginkorea.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html

I hate teaching in korea. DO NOT come to South Korea. Sunday, January 31, 2010. Why did you make this website? In America, I would be considered a whistle blower for revealing gross misconduct. In Korea, I am considered a nonconformist. Only in Korea am I treated as a miscreant because I choose to speak out about injustice. I often felt the need to write about my experiences and what I saw occurring to me and others on a constant basis; it was my outlet when Korea provided no other way to cope. Orientati...

I hate teaching in korea: Blog Negativity

http://ihateteachinginkorea.blogspot.com/2010/02/blog-negativity.html

I hate teaching in korea. DO NOT come to South Korea. Wednesday, February 3, 2010. Why is it so hard to find sites like this? There are many sites that talk about their experiences in Korea. Many paint a picture of balance - some have managed to find some niche where the pros and cons balance; some have not. People can only tolerate so much. Some, like my girlfriend, don't want to sound negative. The thoughts that run through my mind are: Who will read this? Will it help someone? Will I get labeled as a ...

On the Road, On a Shoestring. Seeing the world while we're still young (and broke). Wednesday, March 31, 2010. Today is our 90. Day on the wagon! I want my god-forsaken coin. Hey, I know I don’t go to AA, but I still want a coin, or a plaque, a statue or something! So if you have one lying around… please send it my way. Thanks! 8220;Look how much weight they’ve lost! Here are some of my reflections on being sober for such an eternal amount of time. 1,) It’s a myth that you will shed pounds just fro...
