Ripabianca vanta un’antica tradizione nella fabbricazione di vasi in terracotta, ziri, orci e anfore. Molto interessante è la presenza, in questa località, di un laboratorio nel quale si perpetua un’attività condotta con metodi e tecniche tradizionali. La produzione avviene ancora oggi nel rispetto delle tecniche descritte da Cipriano Piccolpasso nella seconda metà del Cinquecento. I manufatti realizzati sono pertanto segni tangibili della storia e della cultura del territorio umbro.

La produzione umbra delle terrecotte ha origini molto antiche. Non si conoscono con precisione gli albori di tale attività, tuttavia si ha testimonianza dell’esistenza di sistemi industriali e specializzati di produzione già in epoca etrusca e romana. É probabile che a queste epoche risalga la diffusa presenza di impianti e siti produttivi che ha caratterizzato la nostra regione. Attualmente la produzione di terrecotte invetriate sopravvive, con qualche consistenza, solo nei centri di Ripabianca e Ficulle.

A Ripabianca si sono conservate ben quattro fornaci a legna, di cui una ancora in uso. Tali fornaci, il cui impianto ricalca quello antico documentato da Cipriano Piccolpasso, rappresentano un’eccezionale testimonianza in termini di patrimonio edilizio, documentazione storica e cultura del lavoro, tanto più se si considera che della maggior parte delle antiche fornaci a legna umbre non è rimasta traccia.
