I had originally left a small piece of elastic at the base of the tongue, but I trimmed it down as far as I could. I wasn't quite sure how far to go with the binding, but I reasoned that most of it would get covered with the buckle flaps. Blue 18th Century Stockings - Construction. I had originally planned to buy some white knee high socks and wear them under my dress, but after deciding that I was going to have a good stab at make a late 18th century wardrobe I added stockings to my list. Prior to this I had never sewn with stretch fabric, and I wasn't looking forward to it. With a red petticoat. An Anglaise out of hand-printed cotton. An Anglaise out of blue linen:. A 1730-1750s casaque out of green moire silk:. A “matching” stomacher with rows of ribbon bows ( échelle. A cap out yellow silk and lace. A Lampas silk cap. An attempt at a copy of the 1780s hat in the Chertsey Museum.

And as it happen my current projects requires one of these multi-layered bows that resemble a flower more than the resemble a traditional bow. So how to make one:. I got myself some simple cardbord and cut out two identical pieces that had already a fold. On those pieces I marked a narrow triangle which was vertical to the fold.
