Over the past month, I've received acceptance letters from my three journalism grad schools! Now that the apps are done with, I hope I'll have more time to devote to this fledgling little blog. The guy doing most of the talking was thin and wearing glasses. Shifting his cardboard coffee cup between his hands, he described...

Tuesday, June 13, 2006. The Young and the Brainless? If you're not a liberal when you're young, you have no heart. If you're not a conservative when you're old, you have no brain. I'm sure that's a quote from someone important, or at least someone well known, and not the random man who recited it to me at Starbucks earlier this evening. How I got into a discussion of politics while waiting for my frappucino is less interesting than the theory behind this quote, so I'll explore the latter. Do you know wha...

Wednesday, September 27, 2006. In loathe with certain men of New York. Why do some men believe they have the right to blatantly objectify women? This morning, I was on a near empty subway car headed to Sunset Park to do some reporting. The only other person in my train car was a man sitting all the way at the other end. He was listening to music on an iPOD. I was made to feel so uncomfortable that I got off the train two stops early and walked 20 blocks (one mile) to my destination. But what can we do?

Monday, July 10, 2006. A swig of one New Yorker's beautiful life. And the beginning of my own beautiful life as a New Yorker. With about a month until my move-in, this new section will probably get off to a slow start. But my boyfriend (Andrew) is already living in the building. He moved into his studio at the beginning of the month to start a job in Midtown. I've been visiting on weekends and we've already made friends with the staff of the diner across the street from our building. Of course, of course!
