The Anxious Parent

A pediatrician's blog about parenting, children's health and the anxiety that pervasively envelops the parent's life. Tuesday, August 2, 2011. Is White Rice Cereal Bad for Infants? Close to one third of American children are overweight. Theories abound as to why this dramatic shift has occurred over the past 3 decades. Is it just too much fast food and too much TV, or is something else contributing to childhood obesity? I have started recommending whole grain cereal for my patients instead of white rice ...

A pediatrician's blog about parenting, children's health and the anxiety that pervasively envelops the parent's life. Monday, August 16, 2010. Autism and Vaccines: The Misinformation Superhighway. People like me need to be more vocal. So what do we know? What about thimerosal (the mercury based preservative formerly in vaccines)? There is no scientific data that thimerosal in vaccines causes autism or neurological problems in children. None. Except for multi-dose flu vaccine vials, thimerosal has...There...

The Anxious Parent: My Mission

http://www.theanxiousparent.com/p/my-mission.html

A pediatrician's blog about parenting, children's health and the anxiety that pervasively envelops the parent's life. One thing I have learned is that having a child creates an overwhelming sense of anxiety in parents. Some more than others, but all parents have some degree of worry about their child. This makes sense from an evolutionary perspective. Parents that are concerned about their child are more likely to be responsive to the child's needs, and, thus, promote survival. A pediatrician's blog about parenting, children's health and the anxiety that pervasively envelops the parent's life. Saturday, November 27, 2010. When to do What: Guidelines for Nutrition the First Year of Life. Not a rice cereal deficiency. I do not recommend "next step" formulas and baby foods after an infant is a year old. I believe these products are just a way to make their companies more money. A well rounded diet (like the one you should be eating) is adequate to meet your infant's nutrit...

Learning to live my life with anxiety, depression, and self-harm (and other things). I am not a morning person. At all. Never have been. Even though I have been sleeping better lately I still do not always look forward to getting up in the morning. I have, however, found a few things that I now do when I first wake up that help me to get going and start my day off on the right track! Ditch the obnoxious, annoying, irritating alarm clock! You haven’t had any liquids for hours! And there you go! You may no...

Challenging Fear in Society. Sunday, January 17, 2010. The easiest way to spread these malicious memes is through social media. Facebook, Myspace, Twitter etc., move very quickly and when people find an idea that motivates peoples emotions it is really easy to spread misinformation and myths. One of the bigger ones this year was the election of a "facebook president". Claimed that they would donate $1 for every fan that joined another. 25 cents- I suspect no donation will be passed on. Stay away from any...

Feed me everything that is real and raw. Let’s conversate and dedicate. And celebrate and consummate. Fuck the discriminate, the segregate, the regurgitate, and the resuscitate. Let it go, it’s dead. Tell me about your dreams and your moments alone. Tell me everything…. I want to hear you from your depths. I want to know your gloriously raw human beingness. Welcome to The Anxious Poet. Reading books and feeling quite worried about them. May 28, 2013. If on a winter's night a traveller. The Other Reader: Italo Calvino’s “If on a winter’s night a traveller”. What better treat for the book-lover than a book about books? Calvino’s 1979 novel starts with your journey, the reader’s journey, to purchase Italo Calvino’s new novel,. Wednesday, February 19, 2014. My "feet are wet" in areal photography, but what I am standing in, doesn't smell so nice. This is a follow up to the post about getting my feet wet in the genre of areal photography via the Syma X1. In an earlier post, I said "I wanted to get my feet wet in areal videography" I have jumped in, and my feet are now wet. The trouble is, they are wet from standing in a substance that is less translucent and odorless than I would like. Can pick one up for 479 with transmitter.

Take risks. They will pay off. August 22, 2015. Too Bright to See, Too Loud to Hear. Emotions have never been easy for me to comprehend nor feel. It’s not that I can’t feel my emotions but a lot of the time I simply don’t want to. My body subconsciously knows how to avoid these feelings though I can’t avoid them forever creating a fear. I fear they will take over as they have multiple times this week. I have no idea but I wouldn’t want any other song as a crutch. Good God, if your song leaves our lips.
