The Auditorium

Monday, December 31, 2012. Not so much of a Top Ten, more of a list of favourites. 2012 is all but over. I have to say that musically, in my opinion, it's been a very good year. Whilst there have been some albums released that have failed to live up to their hype, and others that should have by all sense and purpose been stonkers, yet turned out to be stinkers, overall 2012 has delivered some absolute gems. In no particular order, here's my favourite album releases of 2012:. Elbow "Dead In The Boot".

The Auditorium: A journey into sound?

http://theauditorium.blogspot.com/2006/10/journey-into-sound.html

Monday, October 30, 2006. A journey into sound? Yeah, so do we. This place was created to speak about music. About it's ups and downs, about it's performance and trajectory, about it's peaks and it's ultimate downfalls. Anybody can contribute in the comments sections. And we'd welcome other people's reviews, opinions and just general disgust at what we've just written. It's all about communication people. We want to hear about other people's interpretation of songs we know. What's this all about then?

The Auditorium: Album Review: Counting Crows - Underwater Sunshine (Or What We Did On Our Summer Vacation)

Monday, April 16, 2012. Album Review: Counting Crows - Underwater Sunshine (Or What We Did On Our Summer Vacation). Counting Crows - Underwater Sunshine (Or What We Did On Our Summer Vacation). It's been five years since the last studio album by one of my favourite bands, the Counting Crows. 2007's. Saturday Nights and Sunday Mornings. Was a lovely mixture of tracks, and so I was looking forward to hearing. Only their sixth studio album in 19 years. It's melodic, laid back and engaging in exactly the sam...

Monday, February 20, 2012. Album Review: Gotye - Making Mirrors. Gotye - Making Mirrors. It's taken three albums and quite a few years for anyone outside his native Australia to notice Gotye - real name Wouter de Backer. The 31 year old has recently shot to worldwide fame with his UK number one single Somebody That I Used To Know. And follows up this success with the international release of his third album, 2011's Making Mirrors. From then on, Making Mirrors. Channels George Michael's Faith. And I think...

The Auditorium: Album Review: Dry the River - Shallow Bed

http://theauditorium.blogspot.com/2012/03/album-review-dry-river-shallow-bed.html

Sunday, March 18, 2012. Album Review: Dry the River - Shallow Bed. Dry the River - Shallow Bed. I have no idea what made me head to an obscure stage at Glastonbury in 2011 to see a new band called Dry the River. I'm not sure I'd heard any of their music at that time, but go I did, and even just 20 minutes there made me think that I wanted to hear more in the future. I loved it on first listen, and so immediately sought out the band's debut album Shallow Bed. On its release a couple of weeks ago. Dry the ...

http://theauditorium.blogspot.com/2012/01/album-review-first-aid-kit-lions-roar.html

Monday, January 23, 2012. Album Review: First Aid Kit - The Lion's Roar. First Aid Kit - The Lion's Roar. You do have to be a bit patient when ploughing through albums by artists you haven't heard of. Clearly there's a bit of taking the rough with the smooth, but the joy is when you uncover a great record that you'd have never previously have considered. First Aid Kit are sisters Johanna and Klara Soderberg and they hail from a small suburb of Stockholm. The Lion's Roar. And In The Hearts Of Men. Comment...

swisslet: rule number two...

http://www.swisslet.com/2015/07/rule-number-two.html

52% intelligent. 9% modest. More monkey than bear. Tuesday, 28 July 2015. Fairly early on into my training course for my PADI Open Water diving qualification, I was introduced to the two golden rules that all scuba divers must live by:. 1) Never, ever hold your breath. 2) Always look cool. But you have to admire the chutzpah that sees them attempt to style out their bulging lycra in the face of all taste or good judgement. Honestly. People, eh? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). 52% intelligent. 9% modest. More monkey than bear. Tuesday, 4 August 2015. Win yourself a cheap tray. The view from the castle. The salad I had for my lunch today had a lovely sticker on it proclaiming “Tastes of the British Isles”. This prompted me to wonder if the UK really did taste of beetroot, lentil and goat’s cheese. After some thought, I decided that I thought that it maybe tasted a bit of beetroot. So that's £3, yeah? One of Tony's excellent pictures from the weekend. A fantastic few days in gre...

52% intelligent. 9% modest. More monkey than bear. Wednesday, 12 August 2015. Seasons change with the scenery. I’m sad to be the one to break it to you, but winter is coming. We’re barely into August, and already the mornings have a distinctly autumnal feel as I get onto my bike to cycle to work: there’s a nip and dampness to the air that tells me that we’re only a short hop away from woolly jumpers and the smell of bonfires. Is that really the best you can do? 13 August 2015 at 10:05. Don't go to vegas.

52% intelligent. 9% modest. More monkey than bear. Tuesday, 11 August 2015. On the whole, I reckon that I’ve been pretty lucky with my MS symptoms. Although I was officially diagnosed with relapsing-remitting MS, apart from the moment I first woke up with a numb hand that morning in 2005, I couldn’t honestly tell you that I had ever experienced a definite relapse. For me, it hasn’t quite worked out like that. On the plus side, one of the possible treatments is apparently cannabis……. Make your own badge h...

52% intelligent. 9% modest. More monkey than bear. Wednesday, 5 August 2015. My friend Tony is something of a photography buff, and he took many fantastic photos documenting our time in Scarborough (his wife is in the choir, Tony spent his time wandering around the town taking photos of whatever and whoever took his fancy). Because of his wife’s involvement as a singer, Tony has sort of become the choir’s unofficial photographer, snapping pictures of us as we sing at various concerts. Btw its our wedding...

52% intelligent. 9% modest. More monkey than bear. Tuesday, 15 May 2007. There are more questions than answers. OK Bear with me here. I've been meaning to do this for ages. I was going to bury it in my archives somewhere, but I thought that would be silly. This is probably ridiculously conceited of me, but there you go. Anything else you think I should add? Didn't you used to be called SwissToni? And the comedy moustache I was wearing in my profile pic at the time. What are the WTs? The WT’s are th...

52% intelligent. 9% modest. More monkey than bear. Monday, 10 August 2015. I’ve watched a lot of cricket at Trent Bridge over the years, but this match was by some distance the most extraordinary, with Thursday’s play in particular being one for the record books. 5 wickets down in the first 25 balls… and the sight of Stuart Broad roaring in to bowl on the first morning of the match with six slips and a short leg. I damn well saw that one. Here are a few of the records from the match ( borrowed from here.

52% intelligent. 9% modest. More monkey than bear. Thursday, 13 August 2015. I’ve taken a dislike to the man who has the locker next to mine in the changing rooms at work (this is, by the way, the celebrity section of the locker room: Craig Davids and Richard Curtis are both located here). This might seem unreasonable, given that we haven’t exchanged a single word in the year since he moved in, but to my mind, it’s completely justified. Let me put forward the case for the prosecution:. http://www.swisslet.com/2015/07/it-takes-guts-to-be-gentle-and-kind.html

52% intelligent. 9% modest. More monkey than bear. Friday, 24 July 2015. It takes guts to be gentle and kind. Of course I would. Who wouldn’t? So what’s MS got to do with that change? Isn’t all of that just a normal part of getting older (and hopefully) wiser? Yeah, so my muscles have wasted on my left hand side and both legs feel weird when I run, blah blah blah. So what? If I want to run - and I do – then you just have to get on with it and run, don’t you? Do it, or don’t do it. 27 July 2015 at 10:29.

http://www.swisslet.com/2015/07/room-without-roof.html

52% intelligent. 9% modest. More monkey than bear. Thursday, 23 July 2015. Room without a roof. Who honestly describes themselves as truly happy in their work? Would I come here and do this if I wasn’t being paid for it or if I had anything remotely better to be doing with my time? Doubtful. But, you know what? He’s actually right: I am. Loveliest of trees, the cherry now. Is hung with bloom along the bough,. And stands about the woodland ride. Wearing white for Eastertide. Twenty will not come again,.
