An English experience of gardening in Ireland. About me: Books and work. Rose Babylon Eyes Sunshine. Rose Babylon Eyes Sunshine. August 11, 2015. Always on the lookout for new plants I was delighted to see some new roses at Springmount Garden centre last week. Nestled in their huge point-of-sale packaging, that was so bright that the roses themselves seemed almost insignificant, were four of the Babylon Eyes series of roses, and I bought all four. Rose eyes for you. Keen biker too with beautiful bike....

In Irish), and that seemed to be east, I thought I would head for that. The road soon appeared to be far from a main route and when the signed town of Knockanarrigan appeared to have more letters in its name than inhabitants I started to feel less confident that the route would take me over the mountains to home! I had ridden into an artillery range. Photos below from the web.

An English experience of gardening in Ireland. About me: Books and work. August 6, 2015. Two years ago I put seven goldfish into the pond. Last summer they spawned and I thought I had six fry. As they got bigger and bolder they swam closer to the surface of the murky water and I discovered that I had about 40! An English experience of gardening in Ireland. About me: Books and work. August 7, 2015. Last year I grew several nicotiana that I was familiar with but this year I tried a new one. The reason was that I saw it growing at Mount Usher and wanted to copy their scheme of this plant with blue chicory. Well the chicory has yet to bloom but. Has been in flower for several weeks and is getting bigger and better. The name. And, I hope, my blue chicory. How to grow nicotiana mutabilis. Professional gardener, auth...

http://noellemace.blogspot.com/2015/07/hurrah-for-cherry-season.html
Thursday, 30 July 2015. Hurrah for the Cherry Season. I love cherries.and was invited to by my friend Roz for the afternoon on Tuesday to pick cherries. I am a climber, have always been. I brought these bright shiny, ripe, cooking cherries home. After a full morning stoning, to give 2.75Kg fruit, and 2 Kg sugar, and three lemons, and an afternoon pot stirring. 31 July 2015 at 10:09. 1 August 2015 at 19:15. 1 August 2015 at 19:13. Stasher: March 2015
http://noellemace.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Monday, 30 March 2015. What do you do or plan to do when you know its going to be raining all day Sunday, and you have a poorly person at home? I can think of various options: knitting, watching Smiley's people back to back, and baking bread, and ironing. I managed all of these.well the last three episodes of Smiley's people on Sunday, as we had watched three on Saturday! Blog, I found the solution. It should be 125g flour and 125g water. When I thought they were sufficiently risen, they went into the ov...

http://noellemace.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html
Wednesday, 29 October 2014. Links to this post. Tuesday, 28 October 2014. Since my last birthday, I have gradually been claiming my six special treats. This was my fourth one, and I was promised a dessert item for the weekend. Even though I love baking, its a treat for someone else to make something, as the taste and smell is so more intense if you have not been immersed in it during the cooking stage. The main course cleared, this is what was brought in. MC asked for the recipe. Links to this post.
Stasher: July 2014
http://noellemace.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html
Saturday, 26 July 2014. We've been sitting in the Gazebo at the end of garden, with cool drinks. Under the large conifer it is about the coolest place there is. In a pot the the Hydrangea Paniculata Silver Dollar has excelled itself. I think I shall have to put in some stakes to help take the weight of the large inflorescences. I bought this plant about three years ago, and as I usually do keep some speciments in pots, planting them into larger pots each year, and move them around the garden. And under t...

Monday, 10 August 2015. In a Vase on Monday - Cathy came to visit. However on Friday, after the big birthday bash for the 125th Birthday Party of our Local Kenilworth Horticultural Society, someone had left bags of wild plums. Most of the weekend was taken up making preserves! I did not think that I had that much in flower, but this proves that a snip here and a snip there and suddenly there are 13 different plant materials to choose from. Dahlia. Pink from a cutting bought at the gardening club. What a ...
Stasher: June 2015

Thursday, 18 June 2015. Clematis make lovely cut flowers. Just wait a couple of days for the flower to firm up after it has opened, before cutting, and invariably the clematis will last well in water. This is the vase made up Monday. The roses are nearly over, but the clematis is doing very well. One started to flounder yesterday morning, so I snipped the stem and changed the water, plus one drop of bleach. Links to this post. Labels: In a Vase on Monday. Wednesday, 17 June 2015. You then start to make t...

The Long Garden Path. A walk round the Estate! About the long garden path. And now the Plan! And now the Plan! Now, you can see “The Long Garden Path” in context. All 160ft. of it! The obvious solution, which we’ve adopted, is to create a series of separate gardens or “rooms”. Let’s start at the top, by the house. The garden opens out here, in the Cottage Garden surrounding a large lawn. The Cottage Border flanks the brick wall here, with traditional cottage planting, including roses, all in pastel s...
