Binge Thinking

I saw pop culture and decided to chug it. Sunday, February 17, 2013. Uno, Dos, Tres, Catorce: Brief Thoughts on Vertigo. Thanks to the Music Box Theater's 70mm Film Festival. I saw Hitchcock's Vertigo. For the first time this afternoon. Vertigo's appearance in this series is something of a misnomer as it wasn't shot in 70mm but rather VistaVision, and was restored and converted. Into 70mm in 1996. This probably matters more to film wonks than it does to me. I haven't seen a Hitchcock movie in several yea...

Binge Thinking: Thoughts on Season 1 of Game of Thrones

http://thebingethinker.blogspot.com/2012/04/thoughts-on-season-1-of-game-of-thrones.html

I saw pop culture and decided to chug it. Sunday, April 1, 2012. Thoughts on Season 1 of Game of Thrones. Brief thoughts on the first season of HBO's Game of Thrones. From the vantage point of having read the first three books in George RR Martin's series:. It's hard to evaluate, since it's basically the first book verbatim. Aside from a few scenes between supporting characters, most of Game of Thrones. That said, it's a solid adaptation. But it also suffers the faults of the book. Series even more now.

Binge Thinking: May 2011

http://thebingethinker.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html

I saw pop culture and decided to chug it. Sunday, May 15, 2011. The unexpected nerd cred of De Palma's The Black Dahlia. I recently finished James Ellroy's The Black Dahlia. Since I'm a glutton for punishment and it was on Netflix Watch Instantly, I checked out the reviled. 2006 Brian DePalma film adaptation. But what's really amusing about The Black Dahlia. Is its unexpected geek connections. Consider:. You probably haven't read the book or seen the 1928 film adaptation. He's the visual inspiration.

Binge Thinking: Downton Abbey vs. Revenge

http://thebingethinker.blogspot.com/2012/02/downton-abbey-vs-revenge.html

I saw pop culture and decided to chug it. Sunday, February 19, 2012. Downton Abbey vs. Revenge. Although PBS is airing the last episode of Downton Abbey. Is incredibly frustrating to watch. The show breezed through three years (including most of World War I) in eight episodes - a pacing completely foreign to fans of Lost. And hung unfortunate plotlines on beloved characters. Noble Mr. Bates suffered indignity after indignity thanks to his ex-wife, who was seemingly airlifted in from Melrose Place. It off...

Binge Thinking: April 2011

http://thebingethinker.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html

I saw pop culture and decided to chug it. Sunday, April 10, 2011. How good is this? In which I talk about some things I've really liked lately. 1 The Hunger Games. How good is this book? Suzanne Collins' dystopian YA novel is conceptually nothing more than The Running Man. And since the film adaptation is currently being casted, let me play armchair director for a second. I get why Jennifer Lawrence was chosen to be Katniss after her role in Winter's Bone. For God's sakes - Foxface, perhaps? Never even a...

The Binge Diary

I am a compulsive binge-eater and this is my story. Tuesday, June 14, 2011. Almost 1 Year Later and No Word From Shades. I have been home from treatment for almost one year. Can you believe it? I am watching Addicted to Food on OWN and realized that's it's been almost one year since I've been home and not ONCE did Shades ever try to follow up with me after treatment. I left and thank god I am doing ok because their aftercare plan is. Maybe this lack of post-treatment communication is normal? It made me f...

The Bingg's Adventures

This is about Chris and Jill and their cross country move. We arrived in San Francisco this summer and will be here for 3 or 4 years.I think. Thursday, October 15, 2009. We drove down to Santa Cruz so mom could put her feet in the ocean. She will take any opportunity available to see the ocean and "get in the ocean". Dad was doing his usual vacation standby and Chris was unavailable for photos. Mom and Dad's Visit. So, September was tourist month for the Binggelis! Monday, September 7, 2009. Chris turned...
