Blacka Moor: Family Outing

http://theblackamoorsite.blogspot.com/2015/08/family-outing.html

Friday, 7 August 2015. Walking the lanes around farmland in the pre-intensive era (largely pre-motorised too) it was common to see family parties of birds such as linnets and yellowhammers, newly emerged from their nests. Those summer school holidays characterised by freedom to roam and explore are a great loss. This is not a myth of a golden age; just a reminder that whatever might have been gained something infinitely valuable has been cast aside. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). HOW DEAR ARE DEER.

Blacka Moor: More Flowering

http://theblackamoorsite.blogspot.com/2015/08/more-flowering.html

Wednesday, 12 August 2015. The flowers of Cow Parsley, a feature of spring, have been gone from our pathsides for more than a month. Yet here beside the main bridleway leading down to Strawberry Lee Lane we can find it still in flower. But wait. This is not Cow Parsley but its near identical successor, Hedge Parsley. Nearby too, also co-existing with the bracken. This is wrong. I've now found a small area of Hedge Parsley below the wall. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Click on the time for details o...

Blacka Moor: August 2015

http://theblackamoorsite.blogspot.com/2015_08_01_archive.html

Sunday, 30 August 2015. The selfless work put in to raise a family and then they turn on you. The elegant youngster didn't hesitate to have a go at his near-threadbare parents. Larkin just got it wrong? Links to this post. There've been some cooler nights lately. It came to mind when I watched the sheep in the grazing desert. Walking towards me lambs accompanying ewes. The older ewes will have felt the cold as they were sheared not long ago so coats are pretty thin. Not long to wait. Links to this post.

Blacka Moor: Moving On

http://theblackamoorsite.blogspot.com/2015/08/moving-on.html

Sunday, 9 August 2015. The appearance of different plants marks the moving on of the season; the same with other organisms. Once Tawny Grisette comes along I always feel that the next step will take us closer to autumn. Yet sunrise remains about 5.30. Tawny Grisette is now all over the birch woodland coming up before the Brown RollRim which shares its habitat. Family of fungi although arguably harmless unlike its close relatives and some lookalikes. So we don't sample it. Art and the Bilberry Pie. Sheffi...

Greenoak Journal: Goldilocks buttercups Woodthorpe holloway

http://greenoakjournal.blogspot.com/2011/04/goldilocks-buttercups-woodthorpe.html

Ramblings from the city's edge. Friday, 22 April 2011. Goldilocks buttercups Woodthorpe holloway. Goldilocks buttercups Woodthorpe holloway. Originally uploaded by goldsally. A little buttercup of damp woodland edges. Found these in the old holloway near Woodthorpe. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Greenoak was the old name for the area of Sheffield in which I live. This is my attempt to capture it and the countryside at the edge of the city. Other photos can be seen on my flickr site.

Ramblings from the city's edge. Wednesday, 28 April 2010. Oak, Totley Hall Farm. Ancient oak, Totley Hall Farm May 1st. Originally uploaded by goldsally. I love 'em. Can't bear to think what the landscape might become. 29 April 2010 at 07:12. Good to see you back Sally! I love oak trees too, have a lovely one in my garden. I had heard a while ago that there is a new disease affecting them - lets just hope that it doesnt have the same effect as Dutch Elm Disease did - that would be a tragedy.

http://greenoakjournal.blogspot.com/2009/12/john-donne-and-shortest-day.html

Ramblings from the city's edge. Tuesday, 22 December 2009. John Donne and the shortest day. A Nocturnal upon St Lucy's Day, being the shortest day". Tis the year's midnight, and it is the day's,. Lucy's, who scarce seven hours herself unmasks;. The sun is spent, and now his flasks. Send forth light squibs, no constant rays;. The whole world's sap is sunk;. The general balm the hydroptic earth hath drunk,. Whither, as to the bed's-feet, life is shrunk,. Dead and interred; yet all these seem to laugh,.

Studded Flip Flops: Highland Fling 2013

http://studdedflipflops.blogspot.com/2013/05/highland-fling-2013.html

Tuesday, 7 May 2013. What madness is it that makes someone want to run 53 miles through Scotland in April? Well, let's see. How Did We Get Here? 4 years ago a work colleague, let's call him Clive. I won't bore you with the details, but I didn't feel ready for a 2011 attempt. I was ready for a go in 2012 but broke my ankle in the winter, so with a deferred place to the 2013 race, it was decided that this would be it. This has stuck with me since I read it in his blog and proved invaluable in the race.

Greenoak Journal: Fieldfares

http://greenoakjournal.blogspot.com/2009/12/fieldfares.html

Ramblings from the city's edge. Friday, 11 December 2009. Why do I seem to write this blog mostly in Winter? Perhaps I find it the most beautiful of seasons - especially when it is under such threat. Today the real symbols of midwinter burst out of the bony trees near Woodthorpe - a clatter of fieldfares. Here is what John Clare has to say in a gem of a sonnet:. Emmonsails Heath in Winter. I love to see the old heath's withered brake. Mingle its crimpled leaves with furze and ling. Nice to see you back a...

Greenoak Journal: Baby housemartins

http://greenoakjournal.blogspot.com/2010/06/baby-housemartins.html

Ramblings from the city's edge. Sunday, 13 June 2010. About 20 baby housemartins at the gate at the end of Totley Hall Lane - all landing together to peck at some wettish mud. Of course, I didn't have my camera with me. 23 June 2010 at 23:13. I absolutely love the photos on your blog. I feel like Im right there! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Ramblings from the city's edge. Friday, 22 April 2011. Originally uploaded by goldsally.
