The Cook in your Kitchen

The Cook in your Kitchen. An exploration of food from the old world in the new world. Wednesday, November 19, 2014. Liver loving Thanksgiving sides. It is always an overload in the US and a possible ride to the A&E can not be over ruled. My challenge was to come up with something simple, tasty, liver friendly and marshmallow free. Choose medium sized firm sprouts and cut them in half. Steam them and cool in cold water to keep them green, yet still firm. Set to one side. Prior to serving, toss the beets, ...

The Cook in your Kitchen: September 2014

http://thecookinyourkitchen.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html

The Cook in your Kitchen. An exploration of food from the old world in the new world. Saturday, September 6, 2014. 50 ways to love your liver. Beets 2 ways. Beets are pretty cheap in the market this week, so I thought I would show you two liver healthy meals. This only works if you buy Beets with the leaves still attached though :). I chose both red and gold beets as it adds a nice color contrast,. I used my own Garam Masala for this dish but it tastes just as good with crushed black pepper and salt.

The Cook in your Kitchen: Tartiflette

http://thecookinyourkitchen.blogspot.com/2013/03/tartiflette.html

The Cook in your Kitchen. An exploration of food from the old world in the new world. Wednesday, March 6, 2013. Tartiflette. Don't you just love that name? It is one of the many specialties of the Haute Savoie region in France, where cheese, cream and potatoes come together in that deliciously unhealthy way which categorizes French cooking, yet defies all logic. Be warned, you may have to book yourself a bed in the heart ward at hospital before eating or serving this dish. These are added to a pan of sal...

The Cook in your Kitchen: Edamame, Mint and Feta Bruschetta

http://thecookinyourkitchen.blogspot.com/2013/03/edamame-mint-and-feta-bruschetta.html

The Cook in your Kitchen. An exploration of food from the old world in the new world. Tuesday, March 26, 2013. Edamame, Mint and Feta Bruschetta. I was contacted last week to cater for a party here on Vashon, so I thought I'd show you a couple of items on the menu. The one detailed here is a Bruschetta of Edamame, Mint and Feta. It is quick and easy, and very tasty. Pop the Edamame into a food processor and pulse for a few seconds until you break up the Edamame into popcorn size pieces. This mixture make...

The Cook in your Kitchen. An exploration of food from the old world in the new world. Monday, June 3, 2013. Cherry Tomato, Thyme and Dijon Mustard Tart. So now I have made my excuse for my absence, here is a simple and delicious dish that is versatile, cheap and easy peasy. Thanks to Mr la Ruche. For the idea, and letting me get his kitchen dirty. In a small bowl, add the halved Cherry Toms, a touch of Olive Oil, some fresh Thyme and salt an pepper. Coat the Toms generously and arrange, face up on to...

The Cook in your Kitchen. An exploration of food from the old world in the new world. Tuesday, December 18, 2012. Tis the season to empty the fridge. Of all the odds and ends in the vegetable drawer. I don't know about you, but with all of the celebrating going on at this time of year, my fridge becomes a repository for scraps of vegetables, not to mention sundry other unrecognizable leftovers wrapped in cling wrap. Here's a great way to use whatever veggies you may have lurking in the corners. Take the ...

The Cook in Me

The Cook in Me. Tuesday, June 23, 2015. Recipe and Photo from Skinnytaste. Another healthier option for brownies. I didn't like these as much, but the kids liked them, and they are a cake-y brownie as opposed to the fudge-y black bean brownies. 1 large egg white. 1 cup PB2 (I couldn't find the plain PB2 so I got the one with chocolate- it's in the peanut butter aisle, a powdered peanut butter- see original recipe for photos). 1/2 cup cocoa powder. 1 tsp baking soda. 1/4 tsp kosher salt. When I added the ...
