The Legal Duck: April 2006
http://thelegalduck.blogspot.com/2006_04_01_archive.html
Saturday, April 29, 2006. Scolari - A Right Balls-Up (An Angry Rant). Unless you have spent the past week cowering under a damp stone (in which case, I salute you - it's got to be more fun than revision) then you will have heard of the fiasco surrounding the FA's attempts at hiring a new England manager. As undoubtedly bungled as the FA's efforts were, I think the Press (that vague, amorphous entity that in this context essentially means tabloid newspapers) is the real villain of the piece. So as much as...

The Legal Duck: August 2006
http://thelegalduck.blogspot.com/2006_08_01_archive.html
Thursday, August 17, 2006. Five and the Mysterious Comments. While carrying out some tidying up of this site, I suddenly noticed that on almost every post, there were 3 or 4 comments. This bewildered me, for it is one of my standing moans that nobody ever bothers commenting, and I was sure that these had all sprung up overnight. When I read them, the plot thickened. For a start, they were all anonymous. Secondly, they said the most ludicrously complimentary things. Super color scheme, I like it! I have n...

The Legal Duck: Hooray for politics
http://thelegalduck.blogspot.com/2006/11/hooray-for-politics.html
Friday, November 17, 2006. Those politicians, eh? Nobody could ever claim they're not good value for money - they might be absolutely balls at running the country but what would we do for entertainment without them? 163;60 grand a year has to be a bargain - it'd probably cost that to hire Peter Kay for a single evening. However much he dances around the ring beforehand he will come in reach of a big clunking fist and, you know what, he'll be out on his feet, carried out of the ring.". Gordon went to a co...

The Legal Duck: The Hunting Season is underway!!
http://thelegalduck.blogspot.com/2006/11/hunting-season-is-underway.html
Saturday, November 04, 2006. The Hunting Season is underway! Cue lots of people riding around the countryside in ridiculous clothes, speaking in tongues (they have an entire language of their own) and shooting anything that moves. It turns out that, under the new law, they are entitled to flush a fox out from its earth with dogs, as long as they then shoot it (in the face, presumably) instead of letting them tear it limb from limb. So that's alright then. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Annie and her travels: May 2012
http://theannieblog.blogspot.com/2012_05_01_archive.html
Annie and her travels. Thursday, May 10, 2012. J K Rowlingová, or the hilarity of Czech names. Yes, the Czechs really do call her Rowlingová (sounds like Rolling Over). Because of this, some hilarious situations have arisen, since the Czechs fully believe that if you have not got -ová on the end of your name, you must be one of two things: a man, or a business. So here are two examples of what happens when I go to collect something from the post office that is just addressed to "Barton":. Me: Ummm. w...

Annie and her travels: Other peoples' words
http://theannieblog.blogspot.com/2009/09/other-peoples-words.html
Annie and her travels. Wednesday, September 30, 2009. Bring us, O Lord God, at our last awakening. Into the house and gate of heaven,. To enter into that gate and dwell in that house,. Where there shall be no darkness nor dazzling, but one equal light;. No noise nor silence, but one equal music;. No fears nor hopes, but one equal possession;. No ends nor beginnings, but one equal eternity;. In the habitations of thy glory and dominion,. After John Donne 1571-1631). BCP, 1549 version). Comes the hour God ...

Annie and her travels: Tipperary
http://theannieblog.blogspot.com/2009/11/tipperary.html
Annie and her travels. Friday, November 20, 2009. It's been a long time since I've been properly posting on this blog. For a variety of reasons, not because I haven't had time or anything to write about! One thing that I have, most recently, been meaning to blog about has been the new discussions between the Vatican and the Church of England/Anglican Communion. I was thinking about what to write on that topic, but then I saw Rowan's speech from this week in Rome. Have a read for yourselves!

Annie and her travels: May 2010
http://theannieblog.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html
Annie and her travels. Wednesday, May 05, 2010. Dear Lib Dems,. The appeal of a handwritten letter is in its individuality. If you photocopy the letter (even in colour) and send it out to everyone in the constituency, we can tell. It looks awfully like you are trying to con us into voting for you. We are not fooled. What is more, schoolboy style handwriting in blue ink on blue paper makes your candidate look like a schoolboy. A Tory schoolboy. He looked young in his photo, but this is ridiculous. Subscri...

The Legal Duck: Enforcing Animal Welfare - Nature's Revenge
http://thelegalduck.blogspot.com/2006/11/enforcing-animal-welfare-natures.html
Thursday, November 09, 2006. Enforcing Animal Welfare - Nature's Revenge. In fact, I discovered that it wasn't the mouse's fault at all. Some bastard American had found this poor creature in his home, and wanted to be rid of it. Fair enough - I wouldn't want to share my home with a mouse either. Any normal person would put down some kind of humane trap and then release it into the wild. Job done. Serves you right, Luciano Mares. If that is. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). The Legal Duck: November 2007
http://thelegalduck.blogspot.com/2007_11_01_archive.html
Sunday, November 25, 2007. An Ode to Legal Research. The idea of writing here has always been simple - it is based on the hallowed principle of work-avoidance. For months I haven't really had call for it, and this blog has thus remained fallow and infertile. Now, however, I have the mother and father of all work which needs avoiding, and so the Duck rises, quietly quacking to itself, from the ashes. The end result, when printed, is the size of a small moon, and contributes to 17% of total global deforest...
