An Unreliable A-Z of Acting. Friday, 15 October 2010. This is a good flavour of the LA agent/client relationship written by TV actor Richard Ruccolo. Tongue in cheek, of course. Links to this post. Funny and gentle Francois Ozon set in the 1970's. An opportunity to watch Depardieu and Deneuve at play. Not sur...

Sophie So Far: October 2011
http://sophiesofar.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html
An Unreliable A-Z of Acting. Thursday, 20 October 2011. How to distinguish between what you can do and what you get paid to pretend to do? After two years playing a doctor on Heartbeat. And one year visiting a hospital on Holby City,. And it is only then, and reluctantly, that I will admit that not only am I very much not a doctor but that I am making it all up. And being a doctor is only the tip of the iceberg of delusion. I also believe I can speak other languages ( A Time of Indifference. Funny and ge...

Sophie So Far: October 2012
http://sophiesofar.blogspot.com/2012_10_01_archive.html
An Unreliable A-Z of Acting. Monday, 15 October 2012. Of course, it is impressive when an actor bursts into tears in the middle of a scene, the evidence of an emotion so sincerely felt that salt water is produced. But that scene will be rarely filmed from one angle in one take. Does it become more impressive if the actor can repeat the flow of tears in every shot? If an actor needs several minutes silence before the filming of the scene, are they digging deep into their character's psyche, or their own?

Sophie So Far: September 2010
http://sophiesofar.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html
An Unreliable A-Z of Acting. Friday, 17 September 2010. At the end of a play's run, usually on a Saturday night, the entire production is packed away. All the cast and crew say their goodbyes and rush off back to their families. By Monday nothing remains of the show except for a small shadow cast on the brow of the company at about 7 o'clock, when each member realises they don't have to go to work that night. And indeed, what do you look like? And whenever a make-up artist looks especially aggrieved at m...

Sophie So Far: May 2010
http://sophiesofar.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html
An Unreliable A-Z of Acting. Tuesday, 18 May 2010. Actors, on the other hand, don't know what work choices they may have to make within any given period. They will take a job and hope they made the right choice. If they get it wrong, they cannot afford to pay for the entire production in order to get out of their commitment and you can be fairly sure that they will be sued. Links to this post. Sophie So Far: Cosmetic Surgery
http://sophiesofar.blogspot.com/2007/11/cosmetic-surgery.html
An Unreliable A-Z of Acting. Sunday, 23 September 2012. If they are to reflect the population, they must at least be taking the same amount of care of themselves. And how do they fulfil the image of the fantasy movie star if everyone is sculpting their bodies to perfection? I didn't get any surgical work done. At 26, it all seemed both too late and too early. And I figured at least I'd always have a big audience of cosmetic surgeons, waiting in the wings. 9 November 2007 at 19:01. Whatever they please...

Sophie So Far: Love Scenes
http://sophiesofar.blogspot.com/2008/06/love-scenes.html
An Unreliable A-Z of Acting. Sunday, 2 September 2012. 23 June 2008 at 18:40. 7 July 2008 at 16:44. The occupational hazard, the love/sex scene, (no way around it is there) is hardest on those who love you, more than any other I should think. 2 October 2012 at 14:19. If thats any comfort (and I apologize if Im making it worse) and because I had read your blog prior to watching, all I could think about during the sex scene in Book of Blood was: I know what shes craving right now: chocolate chip cookies.

Sophie So Far: June 2010
http://sophiesofar.blogspot.com/2010_06_01_archive.html
An Unreliable A-Z of Acting. Wednesday, 23 June 2010. My own dressing gown is plain white and covers all sizes of costume. Whilst wearing it I resemble nothing so much as a decently medicated lunatic. If the coat fits. It has to be said that men don't embrace the dressing-gown culture quite so readily and perhaps that is as well. They often make do with item number two. You will need a hobby without batteries (special relationship aside), preferrably something that is easy to pick up and put down without...

Sophie So Far: Audio Books
http://sophiesofar.blogspot.com/2012/11/audio-books.html
An Unreliable A-Z of Acting. Wednesday, 21 November 2012. Similarly, with descriptions of how the dialogue is spoken, you can get quite far through a passage of dialogue before the author adds "He whispered". These directions need to be brought to your attention as you are embarking on the dialogue, so they all have be ringed or underlined. 12 June 2007 at 11:33.
