The not so exciting adventures of a dabbler. Because things dont always work out the way you thought they would - both in life and in the kitchen. On the shoulders of those before us (TWD Baking w/ Julia: Hungarian Shortbread). Peeks out from around the corner. I am tickled pink to be one of the TWD hosts this time around, along with Lynette of 1 Small Kitchen. The last few days have been a bit introspective for me. She was the type of woman who broke the glass ceiling in a man-dominant industry at a tim...

TWD – Finnish Pulla. December 18, 2012. This week’s recipe for our TWD group was Finnish Pulla. For the recipe please visit Erin’s blog. I must admit this is a recipe I would never have tried had it not been for the TWD group. It looked a little fussy, too “holiday” and just not something I would normally have in the house. I was very pleased to discover how easy it was to make. The dough was a joy to work with and, after dividing into thirds, the braiding was really not a big deal. December 4, 2012.

http://sophiasbaking.blogspot.com/2012/06/twd-french-strawberry-cake.html
Monday, June 18, 2012. TWD: French Strawberry Cake. If this is your first time visiting my blog, welcome! I'm Sophia, a fifteen-year-old baker in New York City. Considering that three days ago, I had no idea what a genoise even was. The bottom layer was a little tough, and I had some trouble with slicing into 3 layers, but it was delicious nonetheless&#...

Certainly, the best chocolate dessert since for a while, and perhaps my favorite of Dorie’s book Baking with Julia . The recipe wasn’t very difficult, however it takes a little time. It’s divided into several parts, with resting time. For my part, everything went without trouble, and even quite easily. I made individual cakes, I reduced the recipe (used 2 eggs) and obtained 5 muffin size cakes. 3 In a separa...
